It's not enough that Tyler Balla caught the pass that you see below. Just consider the fact that wide receiver isn't even Balla's primary position.
Indeed, Balla is usually a star running back for Greensburg Central Catholic High (Greensburg, Pa.), which faced off against Western Pennsylvania rival Waynesburg Central (Waynesburg, Pa.) on Friday night. With Central Catholic looking for its first victory of the season, it turned to Balla to lead it to the promised land.
The senior delivered, rushing for 118 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 35-20 win. Still, it was his work catching the deep ball you see above stood out most. After lining up as a slot receiver, Balla headed downfield and simply out ran his coverage. All quarterback Tommy Pellis had to do was hit him in stride.
Pellis couldn't quite do that, but Balla covered for him, leaping and reaching the ball with his big right paw as he fell backwards right at the 20 yard line.
That's about as good as you'll see anywhere, particularly considering the fact that Balla stands just 5-foot-7 and 165 pounds. It all goes to show that size isn't always what counts, particularly in prep football.
