Trailing by 10, the Canby (Ore.) High girls' basketball team used a remarkable 49-0 run that lasted more than half the game to seal its 10th victory, according to The Oregonian.
Canby actually fell behind 15-5 in the first quarter, but scored 49 straight points before Milwaukie (Ore.) finally broke the streak in the final four minutes of a 61-22 Cougars victory, per the game story. Canby reportedly amassed 20 steals in the game.
It's not as though this was a severely lopsided game, either. Milwaukie (3-6) is a Class 5A program that won three straight games at the end of December, and Canby is a Class 6A program that has suffered three losses already this season.
Even more impressive, the Cougars have lost three players to torn anterior cruciate ligaments and a fourth to a broken hand already this season, The Oregonian reported. Three Canby players scored in double figures -- Ashley Evans (12 points), Taylor Jorgenson (11) and Morgan Meishenheimer (10) -- but none scored more than a dozen.
Apparently, new Canby coach Brooke Cates really knows how to teach defense.
