We should all be thankful we're not the Manitowoc High (Manitowoc, Wisc.) hockey team's goaltender.
United senior goalie Evan Brandt remarkably made 86 saves against Notre Dame Academy (Green Bay, Wisc.) on Monday, but he faced a ridiculous 112 shots on goal and lost 26-0, according to the box score on Wisconsin Prep Hockey.
It's gotta be tough to lose a game in which you made 83 more saves than the opposing goalie, NDA's Zach Krysiak, who needed to make just three stops for a shutout. This was the season opener for Notre Dame, and Manitowoc has now lost its first two games 41-0.
Back to this insane box score for a second. NDA scored 17 goals in the first quarter and just one goal after the second period. Thirteen different Tritons found the back of the net, including five who netted hat tricks, and 12 different skaters had at least three points. Junior forward Sam McCormick (4 goals, 5 assists) and senior forward Mason Appleton (3 goals, 5 assists) led the way as senior forward Brett Gruber, sophomore forward Jack Wied and freshman defenseman Stephen Lovell also tallied hat tricks.
And on one particular first-period power play that included a five-minute major and a 10-minute game misconduct, Notre Dame scored seven goals, which translated into a 700 percent success rate in quite possibly the most productive power play in hockey history.
