Mike Tyson delivers pep talk to undefeated Oregon prep football team

Cameron Smith

When you think of Mike Tyson, eloquent isn't usually one of the first words that comes to mind. Passionate might be, so one can only imagine that he leaned on the latter trait rather than the former when speaking to one of Oregon's top prep football squads.

As reported by OregonLive, Tyson took time out from a visit to Nike headquarters to speak with players for the Central Catholic High (Portland, Ore.) football team. You can see video of Tyson's brief appearance and speech above, in which he focused on his personal experiences as an athlete. The hope was for Tyson's words about how he was thrown into sudden fame could provide a valuable perspective for Central Catholic's own elite young athletes.

Evidently Tyson's words helped Central Catholic remain focused, blowing out Barlow High (Barlow, Ore.) 69-7 to remain undefeated at 8-0.

Whether Tyson's address can provide more far-reaching guidance remains to be seen, but the athletes he spoke to certainly seemed to appreciate his time, as you can see in both the video and photo above.
