There are dominant single-athlete performances on the basketball court all the time, but few can top the triple double that Au Gres (Mich.) Gres-Sims High girls basketball star Cassidy Boensch put together in a squeaker of a victory against Mio (Mich.) Mio-Au Sable High.

En route to a 47-46 nail-biting win, Boensch collected an astounding 31 rebounds, scored 23 points, blocked 10 shots and added five assists for her Gres-Sims squad. The 31 rebounds alone would have been enough to earn regional headlines, let alone the fact that she was such a presence on the inside blocks that she added 10 blocks … and scored nearly half of her team’s total points.

Perhaps most impressive is Boensch’s experience, or lack thereof. As noted by MaxPreps, she’s a true freshman who has wasted absolutely no time in making an immediate impact on the Michigan prep hoops scene. The Gres-Sims star is averaging a triple double during her first high school season, with per-game marks of 22.6 points, 16.8 rebounds and 11.9 blocks, not to mention more than 4 steals and 3 assists in each contest.

Put those stats together, and the 6-foot-3 Boensch is emerging as a Shaq-like presence in Michigan prep basketball.

Unsurprisingly, Boensch is already getting plenty of attention from Michigan colleges. The freshman’s mother told MaxPreps that both Michigan State and Central Michigan have already expressed interest in the powerful post presence, with plenty more schools sure to follow.

In the meantime, Boensch will continue to dominant her area rivals, who are still getting accustomed to trying to match up against her when taking on Gres-Sims.
