Indiana girls basketball team forces astounding 40 turnovers in season-opening win
A trapping defense can create havoc to the best of basketball teams, especially at the high school level. When a team that lacks a highly skilled ball handler faces such pressure? Well, then things get ugly.
As reported by the News & Tribune, Borden (Ind.) High forced an astounding 40 turnovers in a 78-29 victory against Crothersville (Ind.) High, using a full court press and fast breaking offense to run roughshod over Crothersville in Borden's season opener.
"Our effort was extremely noticeable and outstanding," Borden coach Terry Rademacher told the News & Tribune. "When you have quickness because of that effort, you can make things happen defensively."
Crothersville's struggles weren't limited to turnovers, either. In the course of the one-sided victory, Crothersville was held to just 29 percent shooting from the field. Meanwhile, three different Borden players scored in double figures.
The headline, though, was the performance of Borden's trapping defense, which would be the envy of nearly any prep program in the country.
"We have more overall quickness," Rademacher told the News & Tribune. "We've traded size for quickness, and we're going to try to take advantage of what we have."
So far, so good.
