High school uses weed killer instead of fertilizer, destroys football field

St. Edward High School's damaged football field

We all make little mistakes at our jobs, but sometimes, little mistakes turn into huge ones ... like mistaking weed killer for fertilizer.

Behold the field at St. Edward High School in Elgin, Illinois. That's what happens when you bring the pain instead of the love for your turf.

“It was an honest mistake made in the mixing of chemicals for the field and they feel terrible about it,” St. Edward athletic director P.J. White said, according to the Chicago Tribune. “Someone grabbed the wrong bottle when they were mixing chemicals.”

Still up in the air: where the team will play their game this weekend. "The safety of our athletes will be the No. 1 thing we consider when we determine whether this game or any others are moved," White said. "Right now the field is in no worse condition than many fields are later on in the season. It doesn't look great but there is grass there. We're certainly not going to win any grass beauty pageants or anything."

White noted that other local schools have offered the use of their fields to finish out the season. There's also a GoFundMe link to raise donations for field repair.

Sure, it looks like a wreck, but we could name at least one professional stadium that has field problems, right, Washington?
