On Friday Brett Favre's Oak Grove (Miss.) team won the first football state title in school history. The Warriors had to pull out all the stops to earn the crown with a 14-7 victory, including a dramatic fake field-goal attempt that proved to be the game-winner.
Now we have video of the play, which Favre protege Kirk McCarty sold perfectly in his role as a holder turned passer.
What’s most amazing about the touchdown is how ridiculously wide open receiver Logan Scott found himself on the left flank. It's understandable that Tupelo would be lining up to maximize its chances of a blocked kick — it seems pretty unlikely that Oak Grove would have missed a 20-yard field goal wide to the right or left — but someone should have noticed there was a guy lined up completely alone in the flat.
They didn't, and the rest is history for Favre and Oak Grove. Now, let’s see if someone can get the old gunslinger to shave that beard …
