One of the top Catholic football programs in the nation is finding itself in hot water after members of its student fan section directed chants of "We've got Jesus!" at opponents in a heated, intra-city rivalry game on Friday night in Ohio.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, then-No. 8 Cincinnati (Ohio) Colerain football coach Tom Bolden, pictured at right, reacted with fury when he heard members of the then-No. 26 Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier student section chanting "We've got Jesus!" in the moments after St. X escaped with a narrow, 17-14 victory in a matchup of two teams ranked among the top 30 in the RivalsHigh 100 standings of the country's best teams.

The Bombers escaped with the tight victory after Colerain missed what would have been a game-tying field goal as time expired.

"That's where I've got to draw the line," Bolden told the Enquirer about the postgame chant. "[The St. X student section] ought to be embarrassed."

Of course, Bolden did more than just speak out against the Bombers' student fans. According to one Enquirer staff writer, the Cardinals head coach charged out of his team's huddle following the loss and yelled at the opposing student section in anger.

As one might expect, St. Xavier fans have spoken out about how their Colerain counterparts gave more than their fair share of abuse to the Bombers, as well. After an original Friday postgame Enquirer blog post cited the "We've got Jesus!" chant, multiple St. Xavier students reportedly wrote in to the newspaper citing the Colerain student body starting off the chant wars with a rendition of "We've got girls!", an attack at St. Xavier's all-male, Jesuit student body.

Additionally, one St. Xavier student wrote in to say Bombers fans have few non-religious options with which to respond to opposing fan groups because of the litany of chants they are not allowed to use (because the school's administration has banned them for being offensive).

What happens when the top team in the RivalsHigh 100 faces a stern test from one of the best programs on the opposite coast? It either justified its ranking or falls by the wayside. In the case of Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep, the New Jersey powerhouse fulfilled the former opportunity, leading the way for a handful of other highly ranked teams across the country that were featured in the Weekend Watch.

• No. 1 Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep 35, No. 40 Mission Viejo (Calif.) High 7: Don Bosco's season-opening victory at home was more than a big win, it was a statement of intent that spoke to the organization's dogmatic determination to go out and win another national title. Just how dominant was Don Bosco on Saturday? Just listen to Mission Viejo quarterback Alex Bridgford's comments to RivalsHigh senior analyst Dallas Jackson: "We knew they were good, but we saw them on film and thought they may be a little small or maybe overhyped," he said. "But they were great. Their front wasn't the biggest, but they were well disciplined and ran their stunts well. We couldn't contain them."

• No. 26 Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier 17, No. 8 Cincinnati (Ohio) Colerain 14: One of the better early-season matchups thus far, this game had it all: Stout defense, key plays and even dramatic late field goals. In the end, the Bombers escaped with Colerain missed a chance to send the game to overtime, a setback which could prove to be a prelude to revenge in the later Ohio High School Athletic Association state playoffs.

• No. 2 Allen (Texas) 42, No. 27 Longview (Texas) 23: This was a beatdown that was actually worse than it even appeared, with Allen rolling up a massive 28-7 first half lead before Longview eventually made the game competitive in the second half. Still, the scoreline might not be a derogatory statement against the Lobos; the Eagles and Alabama-committed quarterback Alec Morris might just be that good.

• No. 44 Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure 29, No. 35 Centennial (Calif.) High 27: Another game that lived up to the hype, St. Bonny needed both a key defensive play and an extraordinarily gutsy decision to go for two late in the game to hold on against a fellow Southern California hard-charger.

On Sunday, Americans across the nation mourned what has become widely considered as the greatest American tragedy of modern times on the tenth anniversary of the collapse of the World Trade Center towers. While hundreds of journalists traversed different parts of the country to gauge reactions and sentiment about the terrorism milestone, at least one journalist was given the boot for rather misguided reasons. Troublingly, the place he ran into trouble was a high school football field.

As outlined in much greater detail on his personal blog, Al Jazeera reporter Gabriel Elizondo was refused permission to interview any fans at the Booker (Texas) High football game just more than a week before the anniversary of 9/11. Elizondo had hoped to gain some rural Texas ration to the tragedy as part of his travels across the entire country in which he is gauging how the tragic event has affected American life.

Yet, it wasn't so much the fact that Elizondo was not allowed to interview high school football fans as it was the implied reason he wasn't allowed to interview them: He works for Al Jazeera.

After initially agreeing that talking to Booker residents about 9/11 at halftime of the football game was a fine idea, Booker High principal Lisa Yauck suddenly decided that she needed to consult with Booker schools superintendent Michael Lee before granting permission for Elizondo to interview fans at the game. When Lee later approached Elizondo, he made it clear that he would not be allowed to interview anyone at the game, nor film any footage for background shots in his forthcoming project about the anniversary.

For what it's worth, Lee later sent Elizondo a letter declaring that he rejected his request to interview fans at the game because it violated their rights. That logic seems a bit questionable, since the fans themselves would have always had the right to reject any interview requests from the reporter himself (who paid his own way into the game, incidentally).

Elizondo's own blog post about the incident sets out the exact dialogue between the two men. Judge yourself if you think Lee was acting to protect his constituents, or out of spite for the fact that a reporter in his town's venue happened to work for an Arab network commonly mistaken as a media arm of Al Queda.

I tried my best: "So, I guess Mrs Yauck told you who I am. I am a journalist crossing the country doing random stories about the 10 year anniversary of 9/11 and I was hoping to talk to some people here about it at the game, and get some opinions."

He then said something I could not entirely make out, because his voice sort of quivered from a combination of being obviously furious and nervous at the same time.

But I am pretty sure he said:

"I think it was damn rotten what they did."

"I am sorry, what who did?" I say, not sure exactly if he was calling me rotten, the terrorists rotten, Al Jazeera rotten, or all of the above.

"The people that did this to us," he says back to me with a smirk, still glaring uncomfortably straight at my eyes.

"Well, I think it was bad too," I say. "Well, do you think, sir, we can film a bit of the game and talk to some people here about just that?"

"No. You can't film, you can't take pictures, or interview people."

"OK, can I ask why? And if you allow me can I explain…"

Cut off.

"No, I just expect that you will respect it."

That Elizondo would find some terse reactions at certain parts of his journey should come as little surprise. While American culture may be improved, this country is certainly still a long way from being free of the scourge of racism.

It's usually hard to find the best high school plays of the week, as team videographers and fans often send their uploads to other fans and the teams involved before pushing them out for general consumption on YouTube and other outlets.

That's not the case anymore, thanks to RivalsHigh TV, which spends the weekend scouring some of the country's best games for the best touchdowns and defensive plays. In the third official week of the season, it dug up some doozies, primary among them a pretty spectacular, Cam Newton-like quarterback scramble by shifty Berkner (Texas) Richardson High quarterback Yeddiah Lewis in a game against perennial Texas powerhouse Southlake (Texas) Carroll High.

As you can see in the first play in the video above, Lewis found a way to make a play when there really wasn't anywhere for him to go. With little help along the offensive line, Lewis used his escapability to elude one would-be tackler, then fired off a desperation pass off his back foot as a second potential sacker closed in.

Amazingly, Lewis had a receiver waiting for him in space 20 yards down the field, with Fred White pulling in his quarterback's pass and scampering the final couple yards to tie up the game in the first quarter (Carroll eventually pulled away to win the game, 20-10, in the second half).

Of course, Lewis' acrobatic pass wasn't the only stirring score of the weekend. The senior who hopes to be Alabama's future quarterback, Allen (Texas) High's Alec Morris, connected with teammate Andrew Rodriguez on a beautiful -- and very deep -- touchdown pass, and Greenwood (S.C.) High wide receiver Spearman Robinson also pulled off what might be the best run-after-catch of the season to this point, turning a play which should have been a marginal gain into an instant highlight reel touchdown in his team's 28-16 victory against Dorman (S.C.) High in one of the Palmetto State's biggest faceoffs of the early season.

Still, the great plays weren't strictly turned in on the offensive end. As you can see in the clip below, there were plenty of opportunistic defensive highlights as well, none more impressive than the fourth in this reel, an interception return for the ages by Baltimore (Md.) Calvert Hall School's Da'quan Davis.

As you can see above, Davis, a West Virginia recruit, took what should have been an ordinary turnover and made it truly extraordinary, reversing field to get a block while retreating a good five yards, then slipping past multiple opponents to finally find a seam and sprint to the end zone.

For many 23-year-olds, a post-graduation job at a Starbucks or as a waiter at a local restaurant is a good start … if they've even graduated yet. That's not the case with Jim Lauzon. The 2011 graduate of St. Anselm College in New Hampshire got his degree and immediately applied to become the new head coach at his high school alma mater, Manchester (N.H.) West High.

Lauzon probably isn't the first man within two years of the drinking age to apply for a football coaching job, but he might be one of the first to actually land the gig. Now two weeks into his new position, Lauzon is trying to turn the tides of a program that hasn't reached the state playoffs since 2007.

The early returns would seem to indicate that West's players have had little trouble connecting with a leader who is only half a decade older than many of his starters. After a stirring, 32-31 overtime victory against Peterborough (N.H.) ConVal High in the season's opening week, West put a major scare into significantly larger (and more fancied) Manchester (N.H.) Memorial High before eventually falling, 36-26.

"I'm really proud of our guys right now. We're really starting to become a football team and it's showing," Lauzon told the New Hampshire Union Leader following Friday's loss, which happened to coincide with his 23rd birthday.

"We had six starters out for the game and another two went down at the half. For us to compete the way we did is a really positive thing and we're just looking to keep the momentum from what we've done so far."

The fact that Lauzon is living out an opportunity that few others his age have ever been handed isn't lost on the young head man. In an interview with the Union Leader's Marc Thaler, Lauzon issued words of thanks to a hodgepodge of his past coaching influences just before the season kicked off, including the head coaches of two other New Hampshire programs; Bishop Guertin (N.H.) School and Milford (N.H.) High. Milford coach Keith Jones, in particular, was cited for his willingness to offer up advice to Lauzon.

In a tragic turn of events on the 10th anniversary of the most tragic day in New York City history, one of the top girls basketball prospects in the nation was gunned down in her Manhattan housing project in an incident that family members and friends contend was a horrific case of mistaken identity.

According to the New York Daily News, New York Post, ESPN New York and a variety of other sources, 18-year-old Tayshana Murphy (who was nicknamed Chicken), was shot and killed in Harlem's Grant Houses housing project around 4:10 a.m. on Sunday morning. The Daily News reported that friends and at least one witness told officials that she was attempting to out run a gunman in a hallway of her building when she was killed.

Murphy, a 5-foot-6 senior at New York (N.Y.) Murry Bergtraum High, was considered one of the top guard prospects in the nation and had received recruiting interest from a variety of collegiate programs. The teen planned to use her basketball talents to improve her future and help her family leave the projects which eventually claimed her life.

Yet the circumstances around her shooting are so tragic and troubling that they may threaten to overshadow many of the accomplishments of her bright life. According to the Daily News, Murphy was wearing a hooded sweatshirt at a party with friends from her project when she was chased by the gunman in question. According to some who were at the party, Murphy was mistaken by her assailant "for a boy from the group who had fought with young men from a nearby housing project," and she protested her innocence to the gunman.

"She was pleading for her life," Teka Taylor, one of Murphy's close friends, told the Daily News. "She was saying, 'No, please, I don't have nothing to do with it.'"

Murphy's mother, Tephanie Holston, was interviewed hours after her daughter's death wearing a shirt stained with blood from her daughter's wounds. Still coming to grips with the full gravity of her loss, Holston told the Daily News just how important basketball was to her daughter.

"She said, 'Mom, I'm going to get you out of the projects,' " said Murphy's mother, Tephanie Holston, whose shirt was stained with blood after she tried to save her daughter before emergency workers arrived. "She loved basketball, she lived and breathed basketball," Holston said.

Another week, another crop of terrific prep football plays lost in the ether ye olde internets. Well, not all of the best plays were lost, as Prep Rally dredged up a few more for public consumption, as you can see below.

• Dominic DiClemente, Utica (N.Y.) Eisenhower vs. Utica (N.Y.) Stevenson: It seems fitting that a major rivalry in ever-academic upstate New York features two teams named after a former president and vice president, doesn't it? In the 2011 edition, Eisenhower rolled, thanks in part to a blocked punt return which seemed part pop up and part end around sweep.

• Bennie Robinson, Upland (Calif.) vs. San Bernardino (Calif.): When a team loses by the score of 63-14, there are usually plenty of missed tackles to point out. Still, it's a bit hard to find too much fault with the whiffs made by the San Bernardino defense on this gallop into the end zone by Robinson.

• Devon Cox, Boyle County (Kent.) vs. Danville (Kent.): Here's a guilty admission: As great as Cox's burst through the gap and long sprint to pay dirt was, Prep Rally's favorite part of this clip comes from one of the fans in the stands, who offers up a "He gone!" just as Cox breaks free. Perfectly timed. Priceless.

• Bryson Thompson, Boone County (Kent.) vs. Cooper (Kent.): Ever wanted to see a picture perfect example of a player making the most out of an easy screen pass? Just check out all the work Boone County's Bryson Thompson does after taking in this short pass in his squad's 35-14 win over Northern Kentucky rival Cooper.

• Stefon Diggs, Good Counsel (Md.) vs. Manatee (Fla.): There's a reason why Stefon Diggs is one of the most sought after recruits in the country. While he brings a number of different weapons to the table as a wide receiver, his rare combination of exemplary athleticism and awareness make him almost unstoppable. That awareness -- and seamless finesse -- was never more evident than on this overtime touchdown grab in Good Counsel's double-overtime win against Manatee High.

In Washington, Obama is fighting to unify a fractured Congress and jump-start a re-election campaign with little more than a year to go before he contends for a second term in office. In Pennsylvania, Obama is fighting for a City League soccer title in Pittsburgh.

No, they're not the same Obama. One is the president of the United States and the other is a fledging girls soccer team for the newly created Pittsburgh (Pa.) Obama Academy of International Studies, a school named after the current commander in chief.

Still, as chronicled by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, both Obamas have similar goals: To get past stiff opposition in fairly uncharted waters. For the president, that means running a campaign after building up a record which many now question; for the soccer team, it's finding a way to get past teams which have existed (in many cases returning nearly fully intact rosters) for years and will probably have a better sense of how to work with one another.

For the soccer team, those new challenges aren't stopping the Academy team from aiming high, with a potential Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state playoff berth on the line if it can get past the likes of City League favorite Pittsburgh (Pa.) Allerdice High, which has rich Pittsburgh soccer traditions.

"It is a historic season," first-year Obama coach Marlin Woods told the Post-Gazette. "It is incredible to be a part of it. With this being under the Obama banner, named after the current president of the United States, this is special.

"I told the girls we have big dreams, big goals and we have all the components to achieve them. We are very excited, this is monumental and there will be a lot of firsts."

As with President Obama's re-election campaign, not all key players for the Obama Academy soccer team will be new faces. Woods noted that a handful of the Obama players competed together for Pittsburgh (Pa.) Schenley High (pictured above), the recently closed four-time defending City League girls soccer champion.
