It's never a good thing when an offense is labeled as being one-dimensional. But in Rayville (La.) High School's case, being labeled one-dimensional isn't such a bad thing when you have a quarterback like Deleyoung Miller. The signal caller has been nearly flawless this season for his team, throwing seven touchdown passes and rushing for 10 more.
The numbers are good ... but they get even better when you realize Miller has had a hand in every touchdown Rayville has scored through four games. It's a staggering statistic that has to make you wonder where the team would be without their dynamic quarterback.
As Rayville head coach Lent Bursey told The News Star, he allows Miller to have creative license over the offense, placing him in the shotgun and letting Miller make reads based on the defense. It's a gutsy decision, but based on his early season numbers, Bursey looks like a genius.
"It's very special," Bursey told The News Star about Miller having a hand in every TD. "We try to spread the ball around whether it's him running or throwing to a receiver or running back. He can do a lot of things with his arm, and he could be just as effective in the pocket or a wide-open spread option quarterback. He has a unique talent when the ball touches his hands."
While the numbers are good, what may be the most impressive part is how well Miller has adapted to Bursey's offense. As The News Star noted, Rayville's head coach is in his first season at the helm, forcing Miller to have a steep learning curve when he showed up this season.
