There were a few things that were strange about Garland (Texas) Christian School's victory against Lakehill (Texas) Prep on Friday night. It wasn't just that the final score was more customary for a basketball shootout, it was also how the teams got there.

Eventually, Garland Christian emerged as the 94-66 victor in a shootout for the ages. The teams combined for an astounding 19 rushing touchdowns in the game, with Garland Christian quarterback Hayden Burnett, pictured above, leading the way with 330 total yards and five total touchdowns.

As documented by the Dallas Morning News, Lakehill was led by running back Chris McCarty, who ran for 255 yards and five touchdowns. One of his teammates, Milan Rabah, actually outgunned him (rushing for 277 yards) but finished with one fewer touchdown.

The box score for this game is practically a must-see right here. It's practically the length of a Dunder Mifflin balance sheet, with more touchdowns in the third quarter alone (eight) than many games see in their entirety.

Of course, the most notable factor in the game was that both teams racked up incredible points. This wasn't your Grandpa's run-of-the-mill high school blowout, where one team scores nearly 100 points and its opponent scratches out a single touchdown (if that). No, this was a sandlot-style shootout by two legitimate 11-man football teams.

Both squads had multiple wins -- the victory improved Garland Christian to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in TAPPS 2-IV district play, setting up a district title decider on Friday -- and neither was a mere also-ran (Lakehill is 3-6) in what has to be one of the more compelling offensive football games across the country this season.

It's high time that Prep Rally hosted an all-touchdown edition of InterTubing. Given the stage of the season we're entering, one could argue that every touchdown in a close game is somewhat inspiring. Still, some are more touching than others, which is precisely why we're going to kick this round of video roulette off with one of the more heartwarming we've seen recently.

• Davey Reed, Castlewood (Va.) vs. Nora (Va.) Ervinton: Sure, the Blue Devils rolled to a 47-15 rout of Ervinton in this one-sided mishmash of a game, but the real headline was turned in by a senior named Davey Reed, who finally achieved his lifelong goal of scoring a touchdown on a play designed for him called "bologna sandwich." We're not sure what's cooler, the fact that Reed got in the end zone, or that his play was named bologna sandwich. Who cares. Anytime a teen with somewhat different priorities reaches a hallmark like that, it's a great thing.

• Oscar Sanchez, Gladstone (Ore.) vs. Estacada (Ore.): On Friday, Prep Rally posted a video of a safety in Virginia somehow "intercepting" a field goal and returning it for a touchdown. Well, evidently he wasn't even the first to pull off that feat this year, as this slightly blurry video from Gladstone's comeback victory against Estacada shows. How Sanchez or Hayden Knudson managed to pull that off, we haven't the slightest. It's just incredible.

• Witt Westbrook, Stephenville (Texas) vs. Waco (Texas) University: Westbrook's head-over-heels flip into the end zone on this touchdown was pretty impressive, but we're still not sure it can top the brilliant, tongue-in-cheek ad at the end of the video by Jones Family Photography. The company usually tacks its "We got a picture of that" tagline after every video, but when it failed to snap Westbrook's leap, it added "We actually didn't get a picture ... but neither did anyone else." Hey, you have to love a sense of humor, right?

• Ben Johnson, Austin (Texas) Westwood vs. Georgetown (Texas): Here's an elusive quarterback for you. By all accounts, Johnson should have been wrapped up in a bow by the Georgetown defense on this play, yet he somehow slipped free and then hit the turbo control en route to one of his three second-half touchdowns in Westwood's 38-17 win in the Northern Austin suburbs.

Mesquite (Texas) Horn High hasn't exactly had the best football season in school history. The Jaguars are only 2-6 and stand at just 1-2 in district play. Still, all those perceptions about an off year could change in a flash if Horn beats North Mesquite (Texas) High on Friday.

Why? It's not because the Stallions are unbeatable. To the contrary, North Mesquite enters the game just two wins better off than Horn. Still, if the Jaguars emerge from Friday's neighborly rivalry game with a win, they'll be in the playoffs with potentially just three wins.

Wait, what? A Texas team qualifying for the state playoffs with a 3-6 record? As pointed out by the Dallas Morning News' Matt Wixon, incredibly, that's precisely what would happen with a Horn victory on Friday, which would earn the squad a berth out of the incredibly tough District 11-5A.

As Wixon writes, what's equally amazing is that the Jaguars actually might be worthy of a place, too, when you consider the team's potential. Horn has lost six games, but those setbacks have come by a combined 44 points. That's an average of just a 7.3-point differential per game, and one loss -- to Carrollton (Texas) Hebron High -- came by only one point.

When you consider the fact that Horn also put a huge scare in two members of the RivalsHigh 100 in the past two weeks -- the Jaguars eventually fell 38-30 to No. 73 Longview (Texas) High and 56-50 to 19th-ranked DeSoto (Texas) High … in overtime -- there's plenty of reasons to believe that the Dallas-area school could be one of the more competitive six-loss playoff teams in recent memory, if not ever.

There are few games that could possibly receive more hype than the matchup on Friday night between Miami (Fla.) Central High and Miami (Fla.) Northwestern High. The two schools, both of which are annual Florida state title contenders and tend to hang out in and around the RivalsHigh 100 at all times. Undefeated (6-0) Miami Central is currently ranked No. 66 in the country, for example.

Yet this year, the intra-city matchup carries added weight both because of circumstance and promotional hype. Regarding circumstance, Northwestern has to find a way to win the game just to qualify for the state playoffs after falling on a bizarre free kick field goal in the closing seconds against Miami (Fla.) Belen Jesuit School a week prior.

And then there's the gear, which accounts for the aforementioned "promotional hype." When the two Miami teams take the field on Friday, they'll be sporting brand new uniforms custom made by Nike as part of the brand's "Nike Pro Combat" line. The new duds will feel and perform just like the uniforms worn by college programs like Ohio State, Michigan State and Miami, among others, adding a little extra pizzaz to an annual grudge match that had plenty of that already.

You can see Central's uniforms for Friday night above, and Northwestern's below after both were leaked on Twitter. The Central unis appear to be a near duplicate of traditional Michigan State uniforms with a different helmet, while the Northwestern uniforms take a bold all-black approach.

Of course, Central and Northwestern aren't the first schools to don Nike Pro Combat uniforms for a big game. The issue is that the first schools to do so brought some unwanted ignominy on themselves by doing so. Nike kicked off its high school Pro Combat donations by giving new uniforms to Los Angeles (Calif.) Garfield High and Los Angeles (Calif.) Roosevelt High before the two teams' 2010 faceoff.

The uniforms certainly created a splash, but there was one problem: Officially, Garfield's all-black uniforms violated the California Interscholastic Federation's City Section uniform rules, because Garfield had not declared black as one of its school colors.

That bizarre scenario meant that Garfield technically lost the Roosevelt game by forfeit, and couldn't wear the new unis again, at least in the 2010 season. The school's football program was also later put on probation for wearing the illegal uniforms in the game. But Garfield brought them back out during the 2011 season after the school colors discrepancy was fixed, and is now sporting the Nike Pro Combat gear during its 2011 campaign.

It's not unknown for high school football programs -- and sometimes volleyball or soccer programs -- to encourage their fans to show up at the games most closely scheduled to Halloween in traditional costumes. It's a quirky prep pastime that sometimes lends an air of levity to games which can otherwise get caught up in the pressure of a late season playoff push.

But a team asking all of its players to show up in costumes? That has to be a first.

Incredibly, that's what's happening with the Simi Valley (Calif.) High baseball team on Friday, with the team playing a seven-inning game where the players are required to show up in costume.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the very-Halloween themed game was the idea of longtime Simi Valley coach Matt La Belle (pictured above), who insisted that the one-time costumed event be mandatory so that all of his players would have to look and feel out of place rather than just a few performing as Teen Wolf and Spiderman amongst a group of jersey-clad teammates.

As for what La Belle will be wearing himself, he wouldn't divulge that secret when pushed on the matter by Times' reporter Eric Sondheimer.

"I can't reveal that," La Belle said when asked what costume he'll be wearing.

Ever see a player intercept a field goal? Of course you haven't. Well, that might change right now, after you see the video directly below.

The player pulling off the preposterous feat of speed, skill, agility and incredibly dextrous hands in the clip above is Hayden Knudson of Alexandria (Va.) Hayfield High. Clearly, the most impressive part of Knudson's touchdown return is the ease with which he pulled it off. The senior acted like he plucks field-goal attempts out of midair and returns them for touchdowns every day.

If the athletic safety does make plays like that every day, we need to spend more time at high school football practice in Arlington, because that's one of the best special teams plays Prep Rally has ever seen.

The 90-yard touchdown return was the standout play from a crop of great plays in Hayfield's 36-0 victory against Arlington (Va.) Washington-Lee High. The win was the third straight for the Hawks, who improved to 5-2 on the season.

As for Knudson, he happens to carry an impressive 3.4 GPA and has been recruited by an odd hodge podge of schools, with the likes of Iowa, Colorado and Virginia mixing in with FCS schools like William & Mary and Richmond.

An Alabama community has fought back to save prayer over the loudspeaker at its football games after the Freedom from Religion Foundation stepped in with a threat to pursue legal action to stop the school's traditional pregame prayer.

As reported by the Associated Press and WAFF-TV, among other outlets, residents of Killen, Ala., gathered as a community on Wednesday night to pray about a complaint received from the Freedom from Religion Foundation, which filed the official dispute in reference to official prayers before games at Killen (Ala.) Brooks High.

The complaint specifically argues against the Brooks High practice of having the prayers and blessings read over the stadium's loudspeakers before all home games. While the tradition has a loyal following at the school, it runs afoul of traditional restrictions for separation of church and state because Brooks is a public school.

"We want to bless our players we want to protect our players, our band members, our fans, we want their safety and we plan on praying for that safety at the beginning of each ballgame," Alisha Michael, who organized the Wednesday meeting, told WAFF-TV. "We're going to fight this all the way through."

That may mean time in a courtroom for school officials, whether or not Michael is affected herself. The man who brought the situation to the attention of the Freedom from Religion Foundation, Jeremy Green, insisted that he would stand by his original complaint, all while defending individuals' right to pray on their own.

"I would never try to take away anyone's right to pray, and I will continue to support the religious freedom of everyone, but there are certain times and places where sectarian prayer is inappropriate," he said.

"Student or faculty led prayer, when endorsed by or sponsored by a public school is unconstitutional and illegal for good reason," he added. "This protects the rights of the members of all religions, and the non-religious alike."
