Just when you thought Marie Klein's Guinness record for consecutive handsprings was safe, along comes another athletic teenager who drops the Ohio senior down into second on the list.
Fewer than two months after Klein set the new handspring mark with 42, a Georgia teen completed 44 at her school's homecoming game, nudging into first place on consecutive handspring lists.
As reported by Atlanta ABC affiliate WSB, Mikayla Clark pulled off the feat while being filmed at the homecoming contest for Westlake High (South Fulton, Ga.). The 16-year-old reportedly spent the entire season training for the attempt, and was able to rattle off 44 while being cheered on by her teammates and varsity cheer coach, Ashley Clark.
Though Clark now holds the record unofficially, she'll have to wait on Guinness certification that she's the new queen of cheerleading handsprings.
Until then, Klein remains on top, for a few more days. Perhaps this newest attempt will inspire the Ohio cheerleader to mount another record run and give us a third wild flip-flopping video in a single season.
