Tiger Woods will wear new Nike Free golf shoes at Firestone

There are a host of questions regarding the state of Tiger's game, but one of the biggest has to be the status of his leg. The lasting image we have of Woods is him hobbling off the course after nine holes at The Players Championship, leaving many of us to wonder if the injury would have a long-term effect on his career.

Fast forward three months and the leg issue is no longer a problem. At least that's what Woods claimed during Tuesday's press conference. While nobody knows how his leg will hold up for 72 holes, Nike is hoping a new prototype golf shoe helps Woods get around Firestone Country Club.

The Nike Free golf shoe, which is actually part of the company's running line, will add a little more stability for Woods' feet. The other upside of the shoe compared to the standard golf model is that it's extremely flexible and light, which should allow Woods to easily get through the ball.

"This will help give Tiger greater stability as he addresses the ball," Nike design director Tobie Hatfield said. "The freedom of movement that natural motion technology delivers will also allow more power to be released through the swing rather than through the body — which can happen when your feet are too static."

The photo above would lead you to believe he'll wear the black version of the shoe at some point during the tournament, but as our very own Shane Bacon tweeted, there are also rumors Woods could wear a white version as well.

Nike hasn't confirmed if the shoe will be made available to the public, but if Tiger wins or has a great showing in the new kicks, bet on them making it available -- even if it is in limited quantities.
