Tiger Woods posts solid 4-under 68 in 2012 PGA Tour debut

Normally a 4-under 68 from Tiger Woods at Spyglass Hill would be the story of the day at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, but with a host of players -- including Dustin Johnson and Danny Lee who both shot 9-under -- tearing apart Pebble Beach, the former No. 1-ranked player was relegated to 1A status on Thursday afternoon.

No matter. The way Woods is playing at the moment, it's only a matter of time before he becomes the big story in golf once again. Making his return to the full-field event at Pebble for the first time in 10 years, Woods looked incredibly solid in his opening round at Spyglass, carding 6 birdies en route a 4-under 68.

The bad news for Woods is that he's currently five shots back of the lead after the first round. The good news, however, is that he posted the second-lowest round of the day at Spyglass, considered by many to be the most difficult course in the tournament rotation.

After months of questioning his iron play and lack of consistency off the tee, Woods once again proved that he's making serious strides in both departments, hitting 12 of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens. And even though he needed 29 putts to get around the course, it's only a matter of time before he finds his putting stroke and puts it together over four rounds.

With Woods' history at Pebble and the way he's playing at the moment, there's reason to believe this could be the week.

The lowest score posted on the course Tiger played was a 66. For people that don't know about golf they have several courses at Pebble and his was the toughest. He won't play the same course that Johnson played until saturday.

"...only a matter of time before he becomes the big story in golf again"...states the author. You guys are such flip floppers. If he shoots 73 in round 2, you'll say "Tiger still rusty".

So there are 25 golfers with a score as good as or better than Tigroid's score, what's the big deal?

tony romo is an idiot and that's why the cowboys will never a championship with him as their quarterback. You know what Eli's doing right at this very moment? Throwing passes and practicing shotgun snaps.......

I tend to agree with you. I'm not a Cowboys fan, but it would perturb me quite a bit if I were to see Romo putting so much effort into and getting so much attention about his golf game. If Romo were an elite SB-winning QB like a Tom Brady (who I really can't stand anymore, but he does have his rings), a Roethlisbeger, an Aaron Rodgers, a Drew Brees, or Eli as you mentioned, then I might not mind as much. However, he's not in the elite class of QBs and, given how good of a golfer he apparently is, it seems to me he spends way too much time in the offseason working on his golf game instead of becoming a better QB.
I don't think Romo is necessarily a bad person and I understand what it's like to have the "golf bug." But Romo needs to remember what sport pays his bills and allows him to have his fame/fortune. Again, it just seems to me that he spends a little too much time on his golf game in the offseason and not enough at improving as an NFL QB.
