So in an attempt to inject a bit more life and interest into these early season tournaments, and because we're both inveterate gamblers who are one bad card from being out on the streets, Jay Busbee and I are playing a golf version of a football suicide pool: We each pick one golfer per tournament and see how they do against each other, straight up. Victory over the other guy gets one point, victory in the tournament gets three points. And when we burn a golfer, he's done for the year. This week we hit the sunny streets of L.A. for Riviera ...
Busbee: DEET! DEET! DEET! What's that sound? Why, it's Bacon, backing into his first win of the season! Well, if it's good enough for Ben Curtis and Geoff Ogilvy, it's good enough for you, I guess. This week at Riviera, I'm taking Hunter Mahan. A T6 at Torrey and a second-place finish at Pebble Beach look pretty good to me. And with Graeme McDowell out of the mix, so much the better, know what I mean?
Bacon: Hey, don't blame me, you were the one that picked a guy that DIDN'T EVEN TEE IT UP AT PEBBLE BEACH! What, did you already burn your Lee Trevino pick? Did Babe Didrikson Zaharias seem too outlandish? Ahhhh, victory is sweet, but not as sweet as Matt Kuchar is going to be holding that trophy on Sunday. He's rested, he's ready, and he's at least signed up for the event (last I checked). Hey Hunter, you've won $973,834 this year, can't you buy yourself a razor?!?
Overall record: Busbee 5, Bacon 1
Alright, who ya got this week in Los Angeles?
