Rory McIlroy putted his ball into a bunker during his rough opening round at Muirfield

Links golf is known for the hundreds of bunkers that litter the golf courses, but when that putter is in your hand the bunkers seem to disappear.

That wasn't the case on Thursday at the British Open, when Rory McIlroy, off to a horrendous start at Muirfield, putted his ball into a bunker on the par-4 15th hole, leading to his second double-bogey of the day and another lost round for the two-time major winner.

McIlroy has struggled mightily this season, but the key to a lot of his woes has been with the putter, and this is just another example of the trouble he's had in 2013.
