On Thursday at the BMW Championship, it was a rather up and down day for our British Open champion. Phil Mickelson, still in the hunt for PGA Tour Player of the Year honors if he is able to win one of the next two events, was 2-over par for the day after a bogey on the par-4 13th hole on Thursday.
Considering that Brandt Snedeker was bombarding Conway Farms with birdies, it was time for Mickelson to turn his game around and hopefully get into red figures before his opening round completed. Birdies on Nos. 14 and 15 helped get him back to level par, but he missed the 16th green badly and needed an incredible effort just to save par.
He did it one better with this insane chip shot from over the green that he had to land just on the green and let it release to the hole.
The ball was struck perfectly, it released and eventually disappeared for his third straight birdie and a round of 1-under 70.
