Paul Casey drained a 50-foot eagle putt on the final hole to win the Irish Open
In golf, there are slumps and then there are slumps and Paul Casey was experiencing the latter at a phenomenal rate.
Once ranked as high as No. 3 in the world, Casey had dropped to 169 in the rankings, going two years without a worldwide win and basically falling off the face of the earth in the golf world.
That all changed on Sunday at the Irish Open. Casey played an absolutely incredible round of golf in some nasty winds at Carton House Golf Club, and came to the 18th hole with a one-shot lead and a hope that he would finally hold off his competitors and snag that elusive victory.
Casey found the par-5 18th green in two, but had 50-feet to manage for the eagle. No problem for the 35-year-old Englishman, who calmly knocked that putt in for the eagle and the win.
Besides those putts by Adam Scott at the Masters, this might have been the putt of the year in all of golf by the time 2013 wraps.
