History: The former Los Angeles Open dates all the way back to 1926, and has been played at a host of venues throughout the city. When Babe Zaharias teed it up at this event in 1938, she became the first woman ever to play in a men's tournament. More than 60 years later, in 1992, Tiger Woods played his first PGA Tour event at Riviera at the tender age of 16. Northern Trust took over sponsorship in 2007, and subsequently created an exemption entitled the Charlie Sifford Exemption for a player who furthers diversity in golf.
The TV: Golf Channel Thursday and Friday from 3-6 p.m. ET; CBS on the weekend, 3-6 p.m. ET Saturday and Sunday.
The course: Riviera is one of the tour's mainstays and one of the country's legendary clubs, a masterpiece of design demanding strategy on every hole. The Kodak Challenge hole is the 315-yard par-4 10th. Check out a hole-by-hole breakdown of the course right here.
The field: Louis Oosthuizen makes his PGA Tour debut this week, but conveniently enough he's already got a major win to his credit. Also in the mix: Phil Mickelson, Steve Marino, Mr. two-time winner Mark Wilson, Paul Casey and Jim Furyk.
The relevant video: Memorable moments from Rivieras past. Check out the little kid named "Tiger" who made his PGA Tour debut here, along with wins from Billy Mayfair, Phil Mickelson and others:
