Geoff Ogilvy tops the list of winners at the SBS
The SBS Championship ended on Sunday, and just like 2009, Geoff Ogilvy walked away with the trophy. But he wasn't the only winner on the weekend; check out our birdies and bogeys from the week. Let's rock:
Birdies
Geoff Ogilvy – Two wins in a row for the Australian with a new logo, who looks as cool in 2010 as he ever has. It's easy to pick the winner under this category, but Ogilvy had some stiff competition down the stretch and kept plugging away at the birdies.
Rory Sabbatini's first 17 holes – On Sunday, the former Arizona Wildcat (raise the roof!) was 10 under through 17 holes, including a stretch on the back nine where he made six birdies in seven holes. For a guy that never seems to play well in big tournaments (only one top-10 in major championships over his career), Sabbatini put together a round that might help vault him back to where he used to be.
Matt Kuchar – Honestly, this guy could kick a grandma crossing the street and make it look like a sweet act. Kuchar, who was at Kapalua for only the second time in his career, was a third-round 71 away from seriously contending.
Ryan Moore – Sure, he didn't win, but he also didn't have a lot of trouble staying consistent. He made only two bogeys all week, second best of the week only to Kuchar, who also made a double-bogey, and is off to the best start of his short career.
The 28 – Playing Kapalua, in January, with a guaranteed purse … things could probably be worse. All 28 players not only got a check, but an opportunity to score on a golf course that is beautiful while forgivable. Seriously, could you imagine turning down this invitation?
Bogeys
Lucas Glover – He opened his 2010 with a double-bogey, then played the next 35 holes 17-under. His last 36 holes? One-over. If someone could find the location of his putting stroke, Lucas would greatly appreciate it.
Sean O'Hair – He was 20 under, in need of an eagle to get in the playoff. He then hit a second shot on 18 that snap-hooked somewhere left of French Frigate Shoals, making double-bogey and giving himself zero chance of winning. At least his pants were blue.
The Golf Channel – Sigh. I try try try try try try try to like this network, but the constant commercial breaks, along with their decision to drown us in personal information on the golfers all week, made it feel more like a weekday informercial than a golf tournament.
Rory Sabbatini on 18 – It's a par-5, and Sabbatini needed a birdie. He blocked his second shot right, made par, and gave himself zero chance to actually put some pressure on Ogilvy, who took down Sabbatini by a single shot.
Par – You got your arse kicked this week, buddy. Better luck next Thursday.
