FedEx Cupdate: What do your favorite players need to do?

The FedEx Cup is here, and throughout the playoffs we'll be providing you with up-to-the-second updates of all the action! (OK, maybe not that fast. You don't want us yelling in your ear.) Only 125 players remain, and by the end of the Barclays, we'll be at 100. Who's in danger of missing the cut, and who's already booked a ticket to Atlanta? Read on and see ...

Because of the FedEx Cup's point system, certain players have played well enough that they're presumably already slotted in all the way through to the Tour Championship. Nick Watney, Steve Stricker, Webb Simpson, Luke Donald, Keegan Bradley, Phil Mickelson, KJ Choi and Bubba Watson are already locked through to Atlanta, regardless of what else they do.

A total of 44 players are almost surely locked into the top 70, including Charl Schwartzel, who isn't playing this week. And 87 are probably locked into the top 100. That leaves 38 players at war for those last 14 spots. And what do they have to do to get there? Let's take a look at some of the notables, with projected scenarios based on last year's finishes:

Anthony Kim, Graeme McDowell: Must finish 67th or better.

Camilo Villegas, a former Tour Championship winner: Must finish 49th or better.

Ernie Els: Must finish 41st or better.

Padraig Harrington: Must finish 37th or better.

So there you have it. The way is clear, even if the course (at the moment) isn't.
