Faldo changes mind, will make 2017 his last Open Championship

Three-time Open champion Nick Faldo said earlier this year that July's Open Championship at St. Andrews would be his last.

Well, the Englishman has changed his mind.

Faldo, who will turn 58 on the Saturday of this year's Open Championship, announced Monday that he will continue to play in the game's oldest major through the 2017 edition.

Royal Troon hosts the 2016 Open, with Royal Birkdale getting the honors in '17. Faldo won the Open in 1987, '90 and '92, including on the Old Course in 1990.

With Faldo deciding to continue playing the Open for a few more years, Tom Watson, who is playing in his last Open this year, will have the Swilcan Bridge stage to himself as he bids farewell to a major he won five times.
