The PGA has announced that Dave Stockton, a notable golfer in his day and one of the world's most in-demand instructors, has won the 2012 PGA Distinguished Service Award. The PGA will present the award prior to the beginning of the PGA Championship in two weeks.

Stockton won both the 1970 and 1976 PGA Championships, played on two Ryder Cup teams, and captained the victorious 1991 squad at, coincidentally enough, The Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, S.C., host of this year's PGA Championship. Stockton also won 14 times on the Champions Tour, including the 1996 U.S. Senior Open. He's spent more than a quarter-century involved in various charitable efforts, including scholarships, environmental protection, literacy and military assistance.

He's now one of the top putting instructors in the world; the biggest names in golf have called upon his counsel to help them with the flat stick. He's a deserving winner indeed.
