Fort Worth, Texas — There are 72 players in the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial field, but when the sun rises on Sunday's final round, only two will be relevant.

Barring some sort of historic meltdown, either Jason Dufner or Zach Johnson will slide into a plaid winners jacket tomorrow afternoon, after the two distanced themselves from the pack on Saturday to set up a two-man showdown at Colonial.

Considering how both have played recently, it seems fitting that two of the hottest golfers in the sport will go head-to-head for one of the oldest trophies on the PGA Tour. On a day where blustery conditions kept the rest of the field from making a move, Dunfer and Johnson nearly matched each other shot-for-shot.

Johnson, currently 14-under after a third round 65, managed to cut into Dufner's two-shot lead early in the day, going birdie-birdie on his first two holes to cut it to one, which is exactly where things ended up when both players shook hands on the final green.

    • Ernie Els / Getty ImagesIf Ernie Els had the opportunity to go back in time and do things differently, he'd probably pass on Wentworth owner Richard Caring's offer to redesign the famed West Course, site of the European Tour's BMW PGA Championship.

Two years after Els made wholesale changes to the Parkland layout, he's spent more time recently defending his work (and redoing his own redesign) than enjoying the fruits of his labor.

Up until this week, however, Els had been diplomatic in his responses to the criticism. But that all changed on Saturday following a 2-under 70 that left Els fuming with course conditions at Wentworth that looked more U.S. Open than regular season European Tour event.

"I'm fed up with it ... It's not my bloody job doing it. It's their job. They have been around a long time, I'm really disappointed with it," Els said after a third round 70 that was one of the lowest scores of the day.

Only three players in the field broke 70 on the day, as the greens, which resembled the concrete in the Wentworth parking lot, made it nearly impossible to post a decent score.

But Els wasn't done with his criticism of the course conditions.

    • Stupid balls, not going where they're supposed to! John Huston will show you! At the Senior PGA Championship, Huston expressed his dismay with a wayward ball, sending it to a watery grave. Still, Huston's game isn't as sunk; he finished the day T19, eight strokes back of Roger Chapman and John Cook. Let that be a lesson to you, other golf balls: when you're near the hole, it's best to get on in.

    • Gotta love Ben Crane. In the second round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational, Mr. Snake Shake canned an eagle from somewhere near East Dillon High School and embraced some random fan in the gallery. He slipped in under the cut thanks to that shot, which probably will end up making it one of the more valuable single shots of the weekend. Well done, sir.

Fort Worth, Texas — Zach Johnson is one of the quieter guys on the PGA Tour. But following Friday's 3-under 67 (his 14th consecutive round in the 60s at Colonial), he waltzed into the media center, grabbed PGA Tour media official John Bush's microphone and bellowed, "Zach Johnson is in the hooooouseee."

It was a moment where you had to do a double-take to confirm it was indeed Johnson having a little fun. But the way he's played at Colonial over the years, nobody should be surprised to see him enjoying himself this week.

For Johnson, Colonial has been a personal playground of sorts over the years. In six starts prior to this year, he's never finished outside the top 30, posting four top-15 finishes and a win in 2010.

On Friday, he managed to build on his opening-round 6-under 64 with another solid showing that included four birdies and an eagle. Riding a hot putter, he's currently second in the field in strokes gained this week (3.263) and T3 in putts per GIR (1.560).

    • Kevin Na -- wait for it -- waits to hit. (Getty Images)Kevin Na's long preshot routine and human-rain-delay tactics were the talk of The Players a couple weeks back. At the time, he promised to work at his swing and routine, and initially at the Crowne Plaza Invitational, it appeared he had. But on Friday, Na was put on the clock, and oh, he wasn't happy about it.

Na, John Huh and Aaron Baddeley were put on the clock shortly before the turn, and Na would go on to card three bogeys after the declaration. Afterward, he only slightly held back:

"We were in position all day. We were waiting the first few holes. I'm constantly looking where we are in position. Off the sixth tee we were in perfect position, off the seventh tee we were doing fine, we were in perfect position. We struggled a little bit on eighth, the par-3, as a group because we had long shots and long putts coming in and we stand on nine and we get off the tee and they are telling us we are on the clock. I get on nine green and I look down 10 fairway and they are on the green. We

    • c0525bagWelcome to Devil Ball's Proving Ground, where we put the latest golf equipment through its paces. Today, we review OGIO's new Chamber golf bag.

      Initial thoughts

First impressions are so important on the golf course, and before your opponents get a look at your clubs, they're looking at your bag. If you bust out some leather behemoth from the '90s, you'd better have a good story to go with it.

Still, outside of appearance, by and large bags are bags. They carry your goods in a hopefully efficient fashion. So there has to be something more that aesthetics to distinguish one bag from another, and in the case of OGIO's Chamber, that X factor is the "Silencer." The Chamber features 14 distinct holes for your clubs, each with a top and bottom membrane designed to hold your club in place and prevent that tac-tac-tac of club rattle as you drive from hole to hole. Does it work? Read on and see!

The bag is designed with the golf cart in mind, with easily reachable tees, divot/glove pockets, an

    • Rory McIlroy / Getty ImagesIf you want a prime example of how quickly a golfer's luck can change in this crazy game, just take a look at Rory McIlroy.

Just a couple tournaments removed from being considered the best golfer in the world, the 23-year-old left the BMW Championship on Friday with more questions than answers following an abysmal 7-over 79 that resulted in his second consecutive missed cut this year.

After taking the golf world by storm just last year at his U.S. Open, McIlroy moved to the top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking after his win at the Honda Classic, leading many to proclaim that he was, in fact, the best player in golf. (Even though he and Luke Donald have played a game of musical chairs for the No. 1 ranking for the past 13 months.)

Regardless, everyone had McIlroy pegged for big things this season. But following his struggles this week at Wentworth, the big question on everyone's is where does he go from here?

After round of 74-79, it appears the only way he can go is up. At least

    • Rory McIlroy is not pleased. (Getty Images)You know what's wrong with golf these days? That awful Tiger Woods! No respect for the game! Cursing and throwing his clubs all about! Why can't he be more like that nice Irish chap Rory McIlroy, playing with respect and class? You never see him throwing a club, do you?

      /shown picture at right

      //doubles down on stupid argument

Yeah, well, that's got to be a Photoshop! Or ... or ... or he's using the Force, and he's actually drawing the club TO him! No matter what, he's not as bad as Tiger!

(Please note: the above lines are SARCASM. Yes, we do have to make this public service announcement.)

Yes, Rory McIlroy threw a club this week at the BMW PGA Championship. On the par-5 12th, his shot found a bunker, and his club took the heat. "I threw the club out of frustration," he said. "I was 2-under through seven and felt like I was playing well, and then I make four bogeys in five holes ending at the 12th. It's pretty disappointing."

    • If you follow the PGA Tour on a regular basis then you most likely know the sport's recognizable tagline: These guys are good. Every golfer currently playing on tour can fire 63 on any given day, but another thing that separates these guys from the average hack is what they can do when something goes wrong on the course.

Take Kyle Reifers for instance. He was just going along on Thursday at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial when ... CRACK! His driver head snaps off at impact on the par-4 12th hole. Luckily, the club malfunction wasn't that big of a deal. He still managed to bomb it 315 yards off the tee. No big deal. The tagline isn't a joke, folks. These guys really are that good.
