Adam Scott sure picked a good time for his game to start peaking. Coming into last week's Masters, the 30-year-old Aussie's chances of winning his first major championship were as good as a 15-handicapper going out and shooting a round of 68, while blindfolded and swinging left handed.

Nothing against Scott, but he didn't necessarily have a sterling record when it came to the Masters, or major championships for that matter. But as we've seen before at Augusta, the unlikeliest players seem to find a way to get in contention on Sunday.

So it shouldn't have come as any surprise that with a couple holes left in one of the most incredible final rounds in Masters history, an unlikely player was leading the tournament: Adam Scott. Using a long putter to make some clutch putts, Scott moved to the top of the leaderboard, before watching as Charl Schawartzel blew past him with four consecutive birdies to end his round.

While Scott didn't win, it was hard to not be impressed with way he played. He didn't lose the tournament, he just got beat by a guy swinging a hotter stick. That's something positive he can take away from the experience as he prepares to defend his Valero Texas Open title on Thursday.

He may never live up to the early career hype that made him out to be the next Tiger Woods, but if Scott can continue on this current path of consistency -- he's posted a T-6 and T-2 in his last two starts -- there's a good chance he could give a strong title defense in San Antonio.

Is it time to take Adam Scott's game seriously again? It's too early to say just yet. However, if last week was an indication of what we should expect from the Aussie going forward, then maybe we should start paying attention.
