As we've discussed a few times already this season, a plague has been visited upon NFL tight ends. Nearly all the top-tier and second-tier options injured and/or burdened with miserable QB situations. The position is a mess.
And still, it scores. For the second straight week, Colts tight end Jacob Tamme(notes) was fantastic (108 yards, TD). He outperformed every other fantasy TE in Week 9. Tamme led all NFL skill players in targets (17) and he tied for the lead in receptions (11). It helps that he's tied to a great offense and an all-time quarterback, of course, and he was facing Philadelphia, a defense that's historically generous to tight ends.
Tamme's rest-of-season schedule is relatively friendly, too, so there's a clear path for him to finish among the scoring leaders at this cursed position. Over the final eight weeks, he'll face six defenses that currently rank among the top-12 in fantasy points allowed to tight ends. In the fantasy playoffs, he'll get Jacksonville (seventh most points allowed) and Oakland (11th).
If we were re-drafting a league today, he'd be a top-five TE on most boards — he was nearly a top-five option on this one before the Philly outburst. Own him. Start him. Enjoy. Let's hope he doesn't break.
Here are your targets leaders, minty fresh and germ-fighting…
