Russell Wilson, Doug Baldwin spurred Week 12 winner in $350K Baller contest

Week 12’s winner of the “NFL $350K Baller” contest put up 204.7 points, as a lineup filled with sleepers (seven of the players were owned by less than 11% of teams) took home the $50,000 prize.

Russell Wilson had a huge game, throwing for 345 yards and five touchdowns, producing the most points (35.20) among quarterbacks in Week 12. He was an affordable $28 and was owned by just 3.9% of teams, so Wilson was a huge profit. After tossing exactly one touchdown over his previous seven games, Wilson has posted an 8:0 TD:INT ratio over the last two contests, although he’s still searching for his first rushing score on the year after having six last season.

Adrian Peterson and Odell Beckham Jr. were both expensive but earned their respective price tags, as Peterson totaled 187 yards with two touchdowns, finishing as the top scoring back this week, while Beckham Jr. went for 9-142-1. Martavis Bryant benefitted from 13 targets and added the first rushing score of his career. At home against the Colts in Week 13, he’s a borderline must start at $26, assuming Ben Roethlisberger plays.

The Bengals defense got 17.00 points and were owned by just 10.4% of teams, although each of the top-three finishers employed them. Other bargains used by this week’s winning entry included Spencer Ware ($10) and Doug Baldwin ($17). Taking over for an injured Charcandrick West, Ware was as cheap as it gets yet ran for 114 yards and a score. He’s up to $17 in Week 13, but if West is inactive again, Ware will be a highly attractive option. Meanwhile, Baldwin was used by a miniscule 1.4% of teams but responded with six catches for 145 yards and three touchdowns, including an 80-yarder late that ultimately helped secure the top prize. The Wilson to Baldwin connection produced a whopping 70.7 points.

Jordan Reed proved to be a solid option at tight end, as he finished with 13.80 points, although it still somehow felt like a letdown going against a Giants defense that’s struggled against the position this season. Cecil Shorts didn’t have a monster game against a Saints secondary that’s yielded an NFL-high 8.8 YPA and a 30:5 TD:INT ratio, although a TD catch salvaged his fantasy day.

The winning entry had a nice combination of fielding a well-rounded lineup (Shorts’ 11.3 points was the lowest scoring member) as well as being top-heavy, as the winner had the No. 1 scoring quarterback, the No. 1 and No. 5 scoring running backs and the No. 1 scoring wide receiver. Week 12’s optimal lineup cost $184 and produced 265.8 points, as there were a ton of cheap options who put up big numbers.
