LeSean McCoy: Allen Hurns is a beast and a great pickup

Man, that was not the Philadelphia Eagles’ best game last week. The first half we couldn’t do anything right and the Jacksonville Jaguars could. That team has a lot of young talent, but one player caught my eye: that rookie out The U (Miami), Allen Hurns. That kid is a beast and definitely a fantasy pick. I met him in Miami training this summer and he was real quiet but you could tell he had skills and his preseason showed he can ball. He caught two touchdowns right off the bat and finished with 4 catches for 110 yards against us in his first professional game. Not bad for a rook. Hopefully you picked him up and start him this week in your Yahoo Fantasy league.

As for myself, yards weren’t easy to come by in Week 1 (74 rushing on 21 carries, 41 yards receiving on 6 catches).  That Jacksonville front is a lot better than some people think or expected. Their additions on the defensive line are evident like Chris Clemons, who I played with in my rookie year. I also don't think I had my best game and I missed some keys so I am working on correcting that this week.

Meanwhile, how about that 49-yard TD by Darren Sproles? He really helps our offense. (Sproles finished with 71 yards on 11 carries). I think the beauty of our offensive system is we both can be productive and keep opponents guessing. A defense can't just say hey here are the snap totals and here are the tendencies of this personnel, and that this will be primarily the same mix each week (McCoy had 25 more snaps than Sproles at about a 65-35 mix in the offense). Obviously, he's a talented guy as last week was evidence of that, but I think game flow depicts those types of things. He's a great fantasy pick because he's valuable in every part of the game: running, catching, and special teams.

As for how our offensive line we hold up, we do have some injuries to deal with. Both my guys right tackle Allen Barbre and left guard Evan Mathis went down last week. Any time you lose an All Pro like Evan it sucks and a really good player in Barbre. But as cliché as it sounds, injuries are a part of the game and we had some guys step in and help us comeback so they should have confidence in that and I trust in Chip Kelly’s system and play calling and we should be able to make the plays we normally do so don’t lose faith in our offense.

This week's matchup in Indy has plenty of skilled fantasy players. The Indianapolis Colts offense showed it could get on a roll in the second half last week against a great Denver Broncos team. They got Andrew Luck slinging the ball over there and he’s got plenty of weapons: Reggie Wayne, T.Y. Hilton, Hakeem Nicks, and Coby Fleener are all good players. We have to get into our desired up-tempo rhythm this week against them in a hostile environment because we are conscious those guys can score with the best of them.

I’ll be back next week with more of my thoughts after the Colts game, which I hope will be a valuable one for all you fantasy owners.
