Khris Davis, Milwaukee folk hero

If Khris Davis were on this type of run in the first quarter of the year, his fantasy ownership would be to the moon. But silly things happen in the dog days of summer, the silly season of fantasy baseball.

The Ryan Braun suspension opened up regular at-bats in Milwaukee in the middle of the year, and it's been the unheralded Davis who's taken advantage. The Cal State Fullerton product is on a .338 run over 74 MLB at-bats, with eight homers, five doubles and a couple of steals just for fun. It all hashes out to a .730 slugging percentage. His two homers Friday sparked a 6-4 victory at Cincinnati.

Davis doesn't look like a power threat, at least until you watch him take some cuts (have some fun with the latest video, here and here; impressive power to all fields). He's a modest 5-foot-11, 195 pounds. He's never shown up on prospect lists, and he wasn't a notable draft pick out of high school (29th round) or college (seventh round).

Even after 82 terrific minor-league games over three clubs last summer (.350/.451/.604), mixed leaguers didn't have Davis on the radar. Davis made the big club out of spring training, but didn't do much as a pinch hitter and spot starter in April (3-for-16). Back to the bush leagues.

Davis didn't maintain a pretty average at Triple-A Nashville, but a slash line of .255/.349/.473 is useful when you attach 13 homers and six steals over 69 games. And now we have the glorious emergence with the Brew Crew, eight souvenirs in 23 games. He's going to strike out a fair amount and the league surely will make adjustments, but for the love of all that is holy, let's get his ownership level over 21 percent. Show us you're paying attention. Do not go gentle into that rotisserie night.

• Mark Buehrle is a pitch-to-contact guy most of the time, though he's in the middle of a nifty run (four wins, 29 whiffs, 2.41/1.12 over the last month). Working at Houston on Sunday, it's the best possible time for a stream. Buehrle is still available in 75 percent of Yahoo! leagues. He'll work quickly, giving you the rest of the afternoon free.

Normally I'd be bullish on Dillon Gee (29 percent) and Sonny Gray (35 percent), but I'm going to pass on them here, given the schedule (Gee faces Detroit, Gray works at Baltimore). But I'm not afraid to use Ivan Nova (46 percent) at Tampa Bay, and I also like Andrew Cashner (28 percent) hosting the Cubs.

The Monday list of streamers is less interesting, but you might want to consider Zack Wheeler (44 percent, hosting Philly), Tyson Ross (33 percent, unfortunately at Arizona) and Andre Rienzo (two percent, home against Houston). Jake Arrieta also has some juice, though he's working at Chavez Ravine against a sizzling ballclub.
