Beanie Wells, victim of the turf toe (US Presswire)

No one should ever be blindsided by an injury to Beanie Wells, so I'm assuming most of his owners are already prepared to cover an extended absence. You knew what you were getting into when you drafted him.

That's Beanie pictured over on the right in happier times, when only his surgically repaired knees were bothering him. On Sunday, we learned that Wells was dealing with turf toe, a killer injury for any running back. On Wednesday, the Cardinals placed him on the IR-designated-to-return list, which means that he cannot return to the active roster for eight weeks. You won't get any production from Beanie until November 25 at the earliest, in a Week 12 match-up with the Rams.

Can you afford to wait that long for a damaged Beanie Wells? No, probably not. And even if Wells makes it back late in the season, he'll face a murderous schedule down the stretch, beginning in Week 13: at the Jets, at Seattle, Detroit, Chicago, at San Francisco.

So yeah, you can drop him.

Go take care of business, then return for the obligatory Ryan Williams recommendation.

Williams is a player we've discussed a few times this week — here, here (video) and here — yet he's still available in 53 percent of Yahoo! leagues. He's coming off a decent day against Philly (14 touches, 95 yards, finally no fumbles), and he'll get a handful of friendly match-ups before the terrible end-of-year slate, including the Rams (twice), Bills, Packers and Falcons. He was already something more than a handcuff before Wells suffered this latest injury. Add as needed.

Do it. Shoo.
