Fantasy Basketball: Week 3 Player Rankings

Justin Phan
Roto Arcade

We’re two weeks into the season and still dealing with rather small sample sizes to work from, but we’re at least starting to get a pretty good idea of how rotations are shaping up to look like and whether players are fitting into their new/altered team environments. Here’s a look at how things will play out in Week 3, a compromise between a player’s preseason value and current performance.

Easiest Schedules: SAC (+0.55), WAS (+0.45), LAL (+0.30), PHI (+0.27), SAS (+0.25)
Hardest Schedules: TOR (-0.51), UTA (-0.49), MIA (-0.32), ATL (-0.26), ORL (-0.20)

Felton and Douglas are both putting up top-30 production, and their hot starts should continue this week with four games on tap and a rather stat-friendly slate of opponents ... Conley may have been massively overpaid by Michael Heisley with the 5/40M extension he was just recently handed, but he has done his part in justifying the extension with his improved play on the court ... Complain all you want about where Wall is ranked, but those near-six turnovers a game are a killer. Nash faces a similar problem with five per game ... The Jeff Teague resurgence has begun, so pick him up and stash him while you still can ... If the Rockets had four games this week then Ishmael Smith(notes) would've made the cut. The only real concern with him is his field-goal percentage (shot 42% at Wake Forest.

I'm not expecting him to continue playing at this level, but Dorell Wright is putting up top-10 numbers and has four beatable matchups this week. I'm riding the hot streak while it lasts ... Iguodala's Achilles strain bumps him down a bit, combined with sizable drops in his points, steals, and free-throw percentage. I'd be pretty concerned moving forward ... If you want to know how I feel about Vince Carter's prospects this season, check the comments section of Friday's Court Report ... Eric Gordon would be much higher but the shoulder problems concern me in the short-term ... Douglas' emergence has further capped Fields' already low ceiling value.

It's apparent that the work Richard Jefferson put in during the off-season has paid off ... After a sluggish start Gallinari looks to be back on track. There's top-40 potential and he's currently ranked in the 70s so buy low while you still can ... Lamar Odom will finish in the top-50 this season. I was saying that all off-season and am still on record saying it now ... You may be wondering why Luol Deng is ranked so low, but he hasn't done a whole lot other than score and hit threes so far ... Jamison owners will have to remain patient. I still think he's worth hanging onto, at least until we see how he gels with this group and performs on the court.

Millsap was another guy (like Odom) that I was high on coming in. He's outshined Al Jefferson so far, posting top-10 numbers while Jefferson is stuck at 67th ... Amar'e has been terribly inefficient so far in New York, something that tends to happen when you don't have Steve Nash setting you up anymore. His percentages and high turnover rate have him barely cracking the top-150 at the moment ... Z-Bo just didn't look right in his return to the court from a tailbone injury, but it shouldn't be too much longer until he returns to 20/10 territory ... Nene's status for next week is still very much up in the air and I wouldn't be surprised if he missed another game or two ... Griffin has been a human highlight machine this season and is one of the most entertaining players to watch, but in the fantasy realm he is a 3-category player (PTS, REB, FG%) with a largely negative free-throw percentage impact.

David Lee's scoring average and percentages are way down and have me a bit concerned. The Warriors' offense has primarily run through Monta and Steph, which has shaved about four field goal attempts off Lee's average from last year. I know it's early, but having watched all six Warriors games so far, I'll step out on a limb here and say he won't finish in the top-40 this season ... Ibaka and Amir Johnson are two guys I'd be patient with as the potential is clearly there for them to realize it ... Hickson's assists, steals, and blocks (or lack thereof) really limit his value.
