Canadian Bacon: Russell Wilson goes bananas in Toronto

Make some room, Andrew Luck. Clear a little space, Robert Griffin III. The first tier of standout rookie quarterbacks appears to be at least three deep in 2012.

There's no denying Russell Wilson these days, from a real-life or a fake-football standpoint.

The latest episode of The Wilson Show dropped in the YYZ of all places on Sunday — it's time for Buffalo's yearly stop in Toronto. Wilson went video game on the Bills in the first 30 minutes, accounting for four touchdowns (three rushing, one passing) en route to a 31-17 lead. Wilson already had 35.76 points in standard Yahoo! fantasy leagues when intermission hit.

Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell was somewhat conservative with Wilson earlier in the year, and Wilson was a little cautious with his rushing forays in the first half of the season. That's no longer an issue now. Wilson collected 182 rushing yards in his five games prior to Week 15, and against Buffalo the Seahawks have employed Wilson like a rushing weapon as much as a passing threat.

Wilson didn't have a rushing touchdown into this week, but that's old news now. I guess this is growing up. The first two Wilson rushing scores were ad-lib decisions, the look of a confident quarterback; the third came on a designed call.

Marshawn Lynch's snappy first half (nine carries, 100 yards) was lost in the shuffle because Wilson kept piling on the touchdowns, but there's plenty of time for Beast Mode to have some fun against his former club (and there it is: Lynch punched in a rushing touchdown in the third quarter as we're composing this post). NBC has to be smiling right now: the network flexed the 49ers and Seahawks into the prime-time slot for next week. In other words, we're spared a stand-alone look at the Chargers and Jets.
