Brandon Lyon: Nope, still not good

Brandon Lyon's last three appearances have resulted in this line:

2.0 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 2 HR, 0 BB, 1 K, 0 SV, 2 BS.

His ERA is 12.00.

In competitive leagues, you really have to add any closer-in-waiting before he inherits a job. Thus, Tony Pena and Chad Qualls are both reasonable pick-ups right now.

Qualls got the clean-up save on Sunday, but Pena had thrown 27 pitches the night before. If you can just add one, it's Pena. Lyon can't possibly have much job security, although you should expect Bob Melvin to say nice things right up until the moment he demotes him.

Lyon certainly isn't the only struggling closer, but he's a fair bet to be the first one relieved of his responsibilities for performance reasons. His spring was horrible, too: 8.2 IP, 19 H, 13 ER, 2 HR, 2 BB, 3 K.

Lyon pitched on Saturday and Sunday, so we could very well see Pena get an opportunity tonight. Your scheduled starters are Dan Haren and Esteban Loaiza.
