Brandon Jacobs feels 'fine,' offers no guidance to fantasy owners

Brandon Jacobs' knee is either "tweaked" or "dinged," depending on who's describing it. He had an MRI on Monday, and the early reports have been encouraging. Except for the ones that have been discouraging.

You don't like hearing Jacobs compare the injury to the one he suffered last season against Dallas, even though he says "it's nowhere near as bad as it was then." And you especially hate hearing Jacobs say, "I could play if I wanted to and I needed to, but I don't know if they'll let me."

On the other hand, it's nice when he tells Newsday, "There’s not any doubt in my mind at all, I feel like I can go." And of course it's great to hear, "No damage was done. I think it's just more swelling from the blow, but it's fine and I'm going to line up in Arizona."

So we wait. He's probably going to keep talking, adding no clarity to the start/sit decision. There's swelling, but he's fine...he definitely can play, no doubt...unless he doesn't, which isn't his call...but if it were his call, he'd line up for sure...if they needed him...which they might not...

Derrick Ward is owned in 80 percent of Yahoo! PLUS leagues and Ahmad Bradshaw is 37 percent owned. Those two get very interesting if Jacobs can't (or won't, or isn't allowed to) play in Week 12 against the Arizona Cardinals. The Giants' end-of-season schedule is brutal -- at ARZ, at WAS, PHI, at DAL, CAR, at MIN -- so there's an argument to be made for sitting Jacobs until he's at full strength. If the Giants sweep Weeks 13-15, then the starters figure to get more rest.

Jacobs' back-ups are capable, although they don't have his unique ability to humiliate would-be tacklers. (That's LaRon Landry he's destroying in the image above). This is shaping up as a game-day fantasy call in Week 12. Unfortunately, the Giants have a late start on Sunday. For now, you can at least feel confident that this won't be a multi-week issue.
