Bilal Powell & Jeremy Kerley with a mid-air celebration (USP)

For the second straight week, the Jets were led in rushing by a player who isn't actually the team's starting running back. Bilal Powell carried 10 times for 45 yards in Sunday's win at Miami, while Shonn Greene slogged his way to just 40 yards on 19 attempts.

We now have three full games in the books, and Powell has out-gained Greene on a per-carry basis, 4.0 to 2.8. Greene has out-fumbled Powell, two to nothin'.

As a team, the Jets have delivered only a middle-of-the-pack ground game (98.7 YPG), so it's not as if this offense is some sort of fantasy smorgasbord. Still, it's worth noting that Powell has claimed a significant share of the backfield touches in New York, functioning as something more than a passing-down specialist. He took the first three carries for the Jets in overtime on Sunday, in fact, picking up 19 yards.

New York's upcoming schedule is rough — SF, HOU, IND, at NE, MIA, bye, at SEA — so we have to be careful not to oversell Powell. He's a second-year back coming off an unimpressive rookie campaign (1.6 YPC), and the team context here isn't exactly stellar.

If you've decided to avoid the Jets' roster altogether ... well, I can't fault your strategy.

But not everyone has that luxury. Some of us need to chase every semi-healthy back who might see double-digit touches. Clearly, Powell fits that description. And again, it's not like he's running behind a superstar. Powell may not be your priority waiver add this week, but he's a reasonable Plan B (or C, or D), owned in just two percent of Yahoo! leagues.
