Adrian Peterson suspended by NFL for remainder of season, potentially longer

We knew the Adrian Peterson story would take a few turns this week. The NFL certainly moved it along on Tuesday morning:

Obviously, with this being a legal/disciplinary issue in the NFL, we're nowhere near a full resolution. The NFLPA will appeal the suspension, demanding that a neutral arbitrator rule on the matter. A separate ruling allows the league to keep Peterson on the Commissioner's Exempt List. This remains a murky situation, but Peterson doesn't have a clear path to returning to action in the current season.

Our mission here of course is not to judge the process or any of the individuals involved, but rather to think about the tiniest, least significant aspect of the story. For the record, we hate reducing any story as ugly and complicated as this to fantasy impact, but that's the job.

As of this writing, you really should not be dumping non-Peterson shares of the Vikings backfield. Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata could very well have value in Week 12 and beyond. Minnesota has a home matchup on deck with Green Bay, one of the league's softest run defenses. Hold your Vikes for now, allow this story to unfold. Unless you're sickened by the whole thing and just want out, which is perfectly understandable.

(Personally, I would be stunned to see Peterson return this season, given the league's position. But I have no special insider knowledge here. It does seem as if several decision-makers in the Vikings organization — if perhaps not all — would welcome back Peterson. I don't own him anywhere at this point. I've traded away McKinnon in one league, kept him in two others.)
