  • Pressing fantasy questions: 2017 Los Angeles Dodgers

Brandon Funston at Roto Arcade 3 hrs ago

Los Angeles, coined the original entertainment capital of the world because of the presence of robust movie, TV, radio and music industries, is a city known for birthing stars. And its baseball team falls right in line with that meme. On the fantasy baseball diamond, the Dodgers boast the top starting pitcher selected, on average, in Yahoo ’17 drafts, the top relief pitcher and the No. 2 shortstop, in addition to a number of other highly-regarded players.  Coming off a 91-win season that concluded with a 4-2 series loss to the Cubs in the NLCS, the Dodgers are in a good position to give the Cubs another run for their money in the NL … that is if all their stars align.

Let’s get to the Dodgers’ questions that will likely be weighing on the minds of fantasy owners this draft season:

  • Fantasy Freak Show Podcast: NBA trade deadline edition

Dalton Del Don at Roto Arcade 4 hrs ago

During Friday’s podcast, Andy Behrens and Dalton Del Don talk all things hoops, highlighted by recent trades. The duo talk fantasy fallout regarding the Boogie Cousins to New Orleans deal as well as what it means to owners of Nerlens Noel now that he’s in Dallas. Is Willy Cauley-Stein a must add now?

They also talk about smaller deals involving P.J. Tucker, Taj Gibson and Lou Williams, among others. Check out all the NBA talk and the fantasy risers and fallers after the trade deadline during this week’s hoops podcast.

  • Priority Pickups: Hield, Portis and other post-deadline adds

Andy Behrens at Roto Arcade 10 hrs ago

Occasionally, the NBA trade deadline is a kind of a dud … but not this year. After a noisy deadline, fantasy owners have some adding and dropping to do. Let’s get to it…

[Sign up for Yahoo Fantasy Baseball | 2017 Player Rankings]

Buddy Hield, SG, Sacramento Kings, 45% owned

Next week’s schedule: MIN, BKN, UTA

    Willie Cauley-Stein, PF/C, Sacramento Kings, 52%

Boogie’s departure leaves a massive hole in Sacramento’s frontcourt, obviously, and Cauley-Stein was able to fill it capably, at least for one night. He delivered a Cousins-like fantasy line on Thursday in a home win against Denver, scoring 29 points (14-for-22) and pulling down 10 boards. WCS isn’t exactly a versatile scorer with range, so we can’t expect him to flirt with 30 points too often. But there’s little question he’ll see a big jump in minutes. He should be a double-double machine over the balance of the season, while averaging something like 1.5 blocks and a steal per game. A player with that profile should be universally owned.

  • Daytona 500 Preview: Top Fantasy Auto Racing plays

Yahoo Sports Staff at Roto Arcade 11 hrs ago

Special to Yahoo Sports By Dan Beaver

    Racing is cyclical.

Restrictor-plates have been a fixture of this sport since the late 1980s when Bobby Allison punched a hole in the Talladega SuperSpeedway fence. They artificially reduce speed so that drivers get locked into huge drafting packs, but every so often teams find a way to break out of this box. In the past few years, several drivers have found a way to manipulate the draft to their favor and are rising to the top. [Sign up for Yahoo Fantasy Auto Racing]

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is one of the best at side-drafting, which is a method of taking air off the side of the competition’s car and bogging it down in the process. Brad Keselowski has mastered “the swerve.” Once he gets into the lead, he artfully switches lanes to rob the cars behind him of any momentum. Over time, other drivers have caught up to those two and several of them have showed those skills in the preliminaries for the Daytona 500.

  • Three-round Fantasy Baseball mock draft starts in controversial fashion

Yahoo Sports Staff at Roto Arcade 12 hrs ago

The Yahoo Fantasy Baseball crew recently conducted a three-round mock draft. Things kicked off with a controversial choice when Dalton Del Don took Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw No. 1 overall, bucking the conventional wisdom of taking an everyday player such as Mike Trout or Mookie Betts at the top of drafts.

After Dalton was shouted down by the entire room, Round 1 played at as follows.

Six more pitchers came off the board between Rounds 2 and 3, including what many called the best value of the exercise with Chris Sale going 29th. Infielders were the most popular way to go as 18 players with that eligibility were taken over the three rounds.

  • Pressing Questions: The Baltimore Orioles

Scott Pianowski at Roto Arcade 1 day ago

While some ballparks couldn’t hack it into a third decade — looking at you, Turner Field — Oriole Park at Camden Yards remains one of the jewels of the American League. Baltimore’s downtown park stands as a lovely place to grab a ballgame, enjoy a bite and a drink, and maybe even catch a home run ball.

If you wanted a free souvenir, the Orioles were your ticket last year. With Mark Trumbo leading the way, Baltimore clubbed 253 homers — 28 more than the second-place Cardinals — and led everyone in home and road home runs. Alas, swinging for the seats can come at a price — the Orioles lagged in on-base percentage (21st in the majors) and were a mere 12th in runs scored. (They were also dead last in stolen bases, if that matters to you. Manager Buck Showalter probably doesn’t care.)

Pour yourself a Natty Boh and let’s mind our Baltimore Ps and Qs . . .

Q: Will SP Kevin Gausman take another step forward this year?

Q: Will Manny Machado steal bases this year? And do we care?

  • Fantasy baseball price check on NL players: Buying Bryce Harper

Michael Salfino at Roto Arcade 2 days ago

Let’s continue our tour around baseball with the player on each team who intrigues me the most — good or bad. This week, we focus on price checks in the NL. Here are the AL players we addressed previously. Recommendations in this story are relative to ADP in Yahoo drafts at press time.

[Sign up for Yahoo Fantasy Baseball | 2017 Player Rankings | Mock Draft]

    Special to Yahoo Sports

Stephen Piscotty, OF, Cardinals (ADP: 126): Has just average power and at age 26 this year not much room to grow. He also won’t run. His homer range is 15-25. Take Kendrys Morales (ADP: 138) instead.

Addison Russell, SS, Cubs (ADP: 136): Pop-ups (17 percent vs. MLB average of 13 percent) and Ks (22.6 percent) make him pretty much hopeless in batting average. He’s also mildly fly-ball prone. Russell should again struggle to hit even .250.

February is zipping along at a rapid rate. Soon, snow will be melting, temps will be rising, and our full fantasy attention will be on the diamond.

Brandon Funston and Scott Pianowski are mindful of this, with Yahoo Fantasy Baseball already open for business. With that in mind, it’s time to get you up to speed on the early market trends. In today’s podcast episode, we audit the AL East.

Is Gary Sanchez certified gold or fool’s gold after last year’s explosive breakout? What aging New York outfielder looks primed for a value season? Can Xander Bogaerts hang with the elite shortstops in the AL? Is Craig Kimbrel on the downside of his career? Are Aaron Sanchez and Marcus Stroman worth their pretty ADPs? What values can we find in Baltimore and Tampa Bay?

  • Fantasy cheat sheet for Daytona 500

Yahoo Sports Staff at Roto Arcade 3 days ago

Jimmie Johnson ended 2016 with his seventh title, but don’t expect big things from him at Daytona. (Getty)

The start of the NASCAR season is here, so we have some tips to help you set your Daytona 500 fantasy lineup.

[Sign up for Yahoo Fantasy Auto Racing]

Special to Yahoo Sports By Dan Beaver

    1. Denny Hamlin: His Daytona 500 win last year capped off five consecutive results of sixth or better at Daytona. He was also among the strongest in this year’s Clash.

    2. Joey Logano: He saw trouble brewing ahead of him in the Clash and had the maturity to back out of the conflict. That allowed him to sweep around the crash and win.

    3. Kyle Busch: He swept the top five at Daytona last year. He almost certainly would have repeated at Talladega if he had not chosen to ride in the back and protect his playoff points.

    4. Kevin Harvick: He and SHR make the move to Ford this year, which seems odd to fans given his long career with Chevrolet. It has provided some solid drafting partners among the Penske pair.

    33. Landon Cassill: He has earned seven top-15s in his 227-race career. All but two of those came on restrictor-plate, superspeedways.
