With the fantasy playoffs on the horizon, this week’s OVER/UNDER piece takes on a slightly different personality. Including is a DFS snapshot for the upcoming week and BOLD predictions for what players boom/bust during the most important time of the fantasy football year.
Nerves are on high this week as fantasy fanatics enter the second season. What largely cherished commodity, started in 50 percent or more of Yahoo leagues, will lay an egg in Week 14?
Dalton – JORDY NELSON. The Packers are at home, and the loss of Earl Thomas helps, but this is still a tough matchup for Nelson. The Seahawks have allowed the third-fewest touchdowns to wide receivers (nine) this season, and Nelson’s value is especially reliant upon hitting paydirt. I wouldn’t sit him, but this is a difficult draw to open the fantasy playoffs.
Andy –Not only does MARCUS MARIOTA have a brutal assignment this week (Denver), but he won’t actually face a friendly matchup for the remainder of the fantasy season. He travels to Kansas City in Week 15, then to Jacksonville. For me, he’s basically a drop at this point. Great player, but you won’t use him in the money weeks.

On this playoff-minded episode, Brad Evans and Brandon Funston service the fantasy community with their Week 14 start/sit offerings. Is Julio Jones still must-start material? What about Doug Martin in what many believe is a plus matchup versus New Orleans? Can Marcus Mariota solve the riddle that is the Broncos secondary?
Our pigskin prognosticators also unveiled what prominent name will lay an ostrich-sized egg this weekend, previewed the bone-chilling battle between Oakland and KC and answered your Twitter questions.

When it comes to fantasy ownership, Play for Today is one of my long-running strategies. Trust what’s in from of you. Don’t look too far in the future.
With that in mind, I’m a Dave Dombrowski sympathizer. And I like Boston’s move to get Chris Sale.
Dombrowski, Boston’s general manager, blew up the Winter Meetings with three notable moves Tuesday, with the Sale move the signature play. The cost was significant: Chicago picked up two glittering farmhands in 2B Yoan Moncada, perhaps the best prospect in baseball, and RHP Michael Kopech. Outfielder Luis Basabe and pitcher Victor Diaz are also headed to Chicago. The White Sox were able to land so much because Sale’s contract is a team-friendly bargain; he’s affordably controlled (with two team options) through 2019.
Anyone who owned Sale in a keeper league surely wanted him to go to a soft National League landing spot, but at least Boston’s setup is friendlier than Chicago’s. Let’s run through the components.

It’s playoff time! Andy Behrens and Scott Pianowski try to get you set by talking Week 14 rankings. Can you trust Marcus Mariota no matter how far you go with a tough schedule ahead? The Steelers hit the road, which is always seems tricky. While Matt Forte could prove useful, Todd Gurley continues to frustrate. How do we treat the breakout tight ends from last week (Ladarius Green, Dwayne Allen and Dennis Pitta)? Get answers to all that and more.

Russell Westbrook: This is quite the run, as Westbrook has recorded a remarkable six straight triple-doubles (the longest such streak since 1989, and he nearly had three of them in a row in the first halves). His 5.6 tpg (second highest only to James Harden) hurts his value in 9-cat leagues, but Westbrook is averaging a triple-double on the season through 22 games, as the loss of Kevin Durant has helped his stats as much as even his most optimistic backers could’ve expected. He currently ranks second in the NBA in ppg (31.0), ninth in rpg (10.9) and second in apg (11.3). Westbrook led the NBA in Usage Rate at 33.3 percent last season. He’s at 41.6 so far this year.
Otto Porter: He gets another upgrade, as he’s been the No. 10 ranked player so far this season (right ahead of Damian Lillard in 9-cat leagues, with the latter top-10 in Usage Rate). Porter’s 53.5 field goal percentage will almost certainly regress, but he’s quickly developed into one of the better fantasy assets in the league despite playing for a disappointing Washington team.
