Lance McCullers’ .382 BABIP is easily the highest in baseball (despite Houston fielding a strong defense), and his 25.7 Hard% ranks No. 135 (sandwiched between Johnny Cueto and Felix Hernandez and just behind Jake Arrieta). He’s admittedly been somewhat lucky with a 5.3 HR/FB% that ranks as the fifth lowest in MLB, but his 12.4 SwStr% ranks top-10. The top-four pitchers in this stat are Clayton Kershaw, Max Scherzer, Noah Syndergaard and Jose Fernandez, so it’s a fairly strong suggestion McCullers is due for a strong final couple of months to the season. He’s still available in nearly a quarter of Yahoo leagues.

The Juggernaut Index is our annual ranking and review of NFL teams for fantasy purposes — repeat: FANTASY PURPOSES. Here, we concern ourselves with a franchise’s likely contributions to the fantasy player pool. We are not concerned with projected wins and losses. Instead, we’re focused on yards and points. As always, we’re beginning with the league’s least useful teams, working our way toward the elite fantasy juggernauts.

The long-awaited shoe has dropped.
Josh Gordon, off a one-year suspension for violating the NFL’s terribly antiquated drug policy, should return to the field this season. His conditional reinstatement doesn’t officially kick in until Week 5, effectively suspending the receiver four games, but he is allowed to participate in training camp and team meetings. The added practice time and involvement in team activities is immeasurable, especially given the likely rust accumulated during his prolonged absence.
News of his expected return couldn’t be more timely for fantasy owners. With the heart of the draft season right around the corner, Gordon goes from late-round lottery ticket to Round 6-7 ‘reach’ in 12-team formats. PPR leaguers may dislocate shoulders a little earlier given the format.

Mercifully, DefateGate has reached its end. Since Tom Brady is guaranteed to miss the first four games of the regular season, questions loom about exactly how fast the Patriots will start off the blocks with Jimmy Garropolo at the controls. In this edition of ‘The Stance,’ Brad Evans and Scott Pianowski load up their muskets and fire shots about New England’s most discussed fantasy commodities.
Rejoice! Discussions about Tom Brady and emasculated balls are finally over. With arguably the most ridiculous episode in NFL history now in the rear view and Brady shelved four games, is the future HOFer, in his Age 39 season, OVERVALUED, UNDERVALUED or PROPERLY VALUED at his current 98.2 (QB7) ADP?

Aaron Sanchez has limited opponents to two earned runs or less in eight of his last nine starts, dating back to June 1, and he gets a home matchup with the Pads on Monday. If you’re passing on the luxury pitching buys in daily, he’s a terrific (and well-priced) alternative.
I’ve also chosen to pick on Jake Peavy on Monday, notably by starting the scorching-hot Joey Votto. He’s hitting an insane .407/.560/.630 for the month, and he’s reached base multiple times in each of his last eight games. Ridiculous. I refuse to believe that Peavy will be the guy to stop Votto’s binge.

Ryan Schimpf: He’s hitting .350/.480/.950 (that’s good for a 1.430 OPS) over the past week, including three homers and a steal. He’s hurt by calling Petco Park home, but Schimpf is hitting toward the top of the Padres’ lineup and currently owns a 150 wRC+ (despite a .225 batting average). He’s middle infield eligible and currently owned in just two percent of Yahoo leagues.
Brad Ziegler: With Koji Uehara joining Craig Kimbrel on the disabled list, Ziegler appears to be the new Red Sox closer. His peripherals may be ugly at times, but he’s not new to pitching in tough hitter’s parks and has prevented run scoring while doing so. Boston has scored 34 runs more than any other team in baseball so far in 2016, so save opportunities should be plentiful. Ziegler is still available in more than 20 percent of Yahoo leagues.

2B: Gordon Beckham $13
3B: Travis Shaw $12
SS: Xander Bogaerts $16

It’s not clear how close to 100 percent Cole is right now making just his second start after a lengthy stay on the DL with an arm injury (and his velocity was down during his return last week), but he’s at home and facing a Phillies offense that’s scored the second-fewest runs in MLB this season…Darvish is another pitcher starting for just the second time after a recent DL stint, but he fanned nine batters over 4.1 innings during his return to action last week, faces a struggling Kansas City offense and owns a 12.5 SwStr% this season.

News broke Friday morning that Steelers star running back Le’Veon Bell is reportedly facing a four-game suspension due to a missed drug test. Assuming the suspension stands, Bell would be absent for a quarter of the season. As a result, he’s dropped outside of the top-five players at the position in our consensus rankings. Going first overall in many fantasy drafts, Bell is now likely to fall to the second round.
