Xavier Rathan-Mayes scores 30 points in final 5 minutes for Florida State
Xavier Rathan-Mayes went all NBA Jam "he's on fire" on Wednesday night, although in the end it wasn't enough to get his Seminoles a win.
Rathan-Mayes, a native of Scarborough and Andrew Wiggins' high school teammate, poured in 30 points, including 26 straight, in the final 4:38 in Florida State's 81-77 loss to Miami.
The Seminoles were down by 18 before Rathan-Mayes caught fire. He was able to cut Miami's lead down to two, but that's as close as they would come. During his scoring explosion, Rathan-Mayes went 8-for-10 from the field, nailing six three-pointers. The 20-year-old finished the game with 35 points, five assists, and four rebounds.

For perspective on Xavier Rathan-Mayes' 30 in 4:30: an entire ACC team (Georgia Tech) did not score 30 in an entire game earlier this year.

''I've never seen that before in my college coaching career,'' Miami head coach Jim Larranaga, told the Associated Press. ''Outrageous. One of the greatest on-court performances I've ever seen.''
It's been solid freshman year for Rathan-Mayes, averaging 13.6 points, 4.4 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. He scored 35 points earlier this season against North Carolina, but Wednesday's performance goes right to the top of the list.
