Arland Bruce hands a game ball to Rob Ford after scoring a touchdown Thursday.

What happens when a sometimes-controversial football player and an always-controversial football-loving mayor meet? You get the above image, which Sportsnet's Arash Madani has dubbed "the greatest photo in CFL history." The photo, taken at Thursday night's Toronto Argonauts - Montreal Alouettes exhibition game (the Argos won 24-20) at the University of Toronto's historic Varsity Stadium, shows Montreal receiver Arland Bruce III handing a ball to embattled Toronto mayor Rob Ford. Bruce caught a 32-yard pass from Anthony Calvillo for the game's initial touchdown in the first quarter, so this photo likely came just after that.

Ford's connections to football have long been prominent, so it's not surprising that he was at this game and seated in the front row. He famously coached the Don Bosco Eagles high school team, briefly had to face a court-ordered removal from office thanks to alleged violations of conflict-of-interest rules relating to that team, lifted the Grey Cup during the Argos' 2012 celebration and even became famous worldwide during Toronto's Grey Cup festival last fall for falling down after taking a snap during a game with council members and staffers:

Bruce is an appropriate guy to hand Ford the ball, too, as he's been embroiled in plenty of his own controversies in the past. Of course, they've been much more minor than Ford's, as no one's accused him of smoking crack cocaine, but he's made headlines with his Spiderman touchdown celebration, his trade from Toronto to Hamilton, his brief name change to Runako Reth, his eventual trade to B.C., the Lions' decision to cut him this offseason and Montreal's move to pick him up. He's no stranger to headlines, so having him and Ford in the same photo is pretty perfect, and oft-declared Argos' fan Ford is the funniest possible person for Bruce to hand a football to after scoring against the home team.
