Muhammed 'King Mo' Lawal signs long-term extension with Bellator

It is no secret that Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal didn't care much for Bjorn Rebney, the Bellator founder and CEO.

But just two months after Rebney was forced out and replaced by ex-Strikeforce head honcho Scott Coker, Lawal has signed a contract extension with Bellator that could keep him with the company for life.

Terms of the deal were not announced, but Coker told Cagewriter in a telephone interview that it was for 28 months. Lawal, 33, said in a statement he is thrilled with the deal. He fights Dustin Jacoby on Sept. 5.

This was one of the easiest decisions I could have made. After everything that went down over the last six or seven months, I didn’t think this was something that would ever happen, but when Coker came on board with Bellator, everything changed. This is where I want to be. I don’t care who I fight, when it is, or where it is. I get paid to fight, and that’s what I’m going to do for Bellator. That’s it.

Lawal is 4-3 in Bellator and dropped a hotly disputed decision to Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in his last outing.

Coker had Lawal when both were in Strikeforce and said he was happy to lock him up.

"King Mo is a special athlete," Coker said. "He's a great entertainer and he's proven he can fight anyone. He's had a couple of tough fights, and he'll have some more challenging ones ahead, but he has proven as I said that he can fight anyone at any level. He's a very good wrestler, obviously, and he has good hands. And there's that special quality about him. He's an entertainer and people like to watch him."
