Carlos Condit suffered torn ACL and partially torn meniscus as result of Tyron Woodley kick
Carlos Condit needs surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament as well as a partially torn meniscus in his right knee, the result of an injury he suffered Saturday in Dallas during his bout at UFC 171 against Tyron Woodley.
Woodley hit Condit with a vicious kick on the left knee. The former of the kick caused Condit's right knee to spin and, ultimately, give out.
Condit's manager, Malki Kawa, said the date of the surgery is not yet scheduled. Kawa said he is working closely with the UFC to find the best surgeon.
"We're still uncertain how long he will be out and how much recovery time will be requied," Kawa said. "We're going to make sure that Carlos gets the best care and we've been working closely with the UFC on scheduling the surgery."
Condit is disappointed, Kawa said, but optimistic about a return.
"Carlos is a fighter and it hurts not to be able to fight for a while, but he's in great spirits and he's looking forward to having the surgery and then working as hard as possible on his rehab," Kawa said. "He loves to fight and he loves to compete and he's going to miss that while he's out. But he is optimistic he'll be as good as ever and is looking forward to getting back to doing what he does best, fighting."
Condit, who turns 30 next month, is a former interim UFC welterweight champion and the former World Extreme Cagefighting champion. He is 29-8 in his mixed martial arts career.
