Wladimir Klitschko jumps into the trash-talk game for Tyson Fury fight
Wladimir Klitschko believes that he’s become a magnet for fighters who will say and do anything to promote a fight.
With his Oct. 24 heavyweight title defense against Tyson Fury a little over a month away, Klitschko figures that he may have met his wackiest opponent yet.
“I am seriously stunned with my conditions that I face all the time,” Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) said while reflecting on the treatment he has received from the likes of David Haye and Shannon Briggs. “I don’t know why boxers completely lose their minds when promoting themselves.”
In a recent interview, Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) went so far as to say that he’d lay some leather on the referee should he interfere in the fight too much.
“I couldn’t give a [expletitve],” Fury said in an interview with Boxing News Online. “I’ll hit him and all."
Hitting a referee? That certainly outdoes Shannon Briggs’ global pursuit of the champ and David Haye’s T-shirt that pictured the decapitated heads of the Klitschko brothers.
“He’s psychologically unstable,” Klitschko said while noting how Fury has said something in one interview while saying something completely different in another. “I think he’s bipolar and not really knowing what he’s doing next. He doesn’t’ really have a plan. I’ve been observing him the past few weeks, and I’ve seen him with his behavior and how he acts. There are some major issues.”
Being the heavyweight champion with a degree in sports medicine, Klitschko thinks he has the remedy for Fury’s “mental issues.”
“I can change him and make a better person when he faces me,” Klitschko said. “I have made David Haye a better person from fighting me and he confirmed it.”
The Ukranian said that he has changed the lives of all of his opponents after a thorough beating and says that he is thankful that Haye and Fury never faced each other after two failed attempts in 2013.
“I’m glad that Haye didn’t fight Fury because [Haye] would have knocked him out and I wouldn’t have had a chance to give [Fury] therapy,” Klitschko said.
And once Klitschko takes down Fury, he says he has a job offer for the fighter whom he perceives to be a clown.
“If he retires after he loses to me, I have friends at Cirque Du Soleil and I think he can have a great 2nd career.”
