Kenny Bayless, counting over Shane Mosley, will referee the Floyd Mayweather-Canelo Alvarez bout (AP)
The Nevada Athletic Commission on Wednesday appointed Kenny Bayless as the referee for the Sept. 14 super welterweight title bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Canelo Alvarez at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas.
The judges will be Dave Moretti, C.J. Ross and Craig Metcalfe.
Bayless is widely regarded as the finest referee in the world. He has refereed Mayweather bouts against Shane Mosley, Oscar De La Hoya and Robert Apodaca. The Apodaca fight was Mayweather's professional debut.
He has never worked an Alvarez fight previously.
Tony Weeks was appointed to referee the Danny Garcia-Lucas Matthysse bout on the undercard. Robert Hoyle, Glen Trowbridge and Juergen Langos will be the judges.
