Yoenis Cespedes to leave states after only visiting Marlins?

US PresswireCuban defector Yoenis Cespedes is supposedly the hottest batsman still available on the free-agent market and has lots of teams salivating over his hitting ability, but the word from ESPN is that he may head back (if he hasn't already) to his new homeland, the Dominican Republic, after having met with only one team: the Miami Marlins.

Cespedes, who met with Marlins execs Wednesday and toured the Marlins' new stadium, may have gone back to the D.R. Thursday, the site notes, and his agent, Adam Katz, said "nothing is scheduled for now" with other teams.

"We had a good meeting," Katz said of the visit with the Marlins, ESPN reports. "They made a very impressive presentation. Discussions are ongoing and productive. But there are several other teams in the mix."

I hate how the only video of this guy is doing cross-fit stuff and hitting ground balls...I thought he has power yet no footage of any long drives. I'll see it when I believe it. Give him league min like every other rookie and make him prove it.

The Marlins will pay him big bucks because they are trying to sell tickets to their new park....and he is Cuban. IMO, he will get around $30-40mil. Is he worth that amount....the Marlins will find out, I guess.

When will GM's and owners learn? His agent is trying to invent a persona that isn't there. He's not Major League ready, and probably won't be for 2-3 years. If anyone signs him to a multi year deal, they're a fool. Sign him like any other "MINOR" leaguer, to a one year deal. Stick him in the minors, and let him work himself up tot he majors. He will be a major disappointment, and flop, if put on a Major League roster.

I wasn't that impressed with the mechanics of Cespedes' swing. He should sign with the Cards and let Big Mac straighten him out.

LOL seriously? Other teams interested? #$%$ Katz blatantly he`s only interested in Miami because he`s freaking Cuban and wants to stay close to home. He`s only interested in playing there or MAYBE playing for the Yankees, they need a backup 3rd baseman right?
