Vladimir Guerrero wants to DH for Yankees

US PresswireThe New York Yankees are still looking to unload starting pitcher A.J. Burnett, which would create some financial breathing room to sign a DH along with Eric Chavez.

The word has been that the candidates for the DH spot have been free agents Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui and Raul Ibanez. Well, throw another name into the hat. It isn't clear how much interest the Yanks have, but 37-year-old Vladimir Guerrero, who spent last season batting .290 and hitting 13 homers for the Baltimore Orioles, "has made it known to the Yankees that he wants their DH spot," according to ESPN. The way the site sees it, though, Ibanez is "still the frontrunner" for the position.

Ibanez batted .245 with 20 homers while playing left field for the Philadelphia Phillies last season.

Vlad is coming off his worst year ever, yet he had the best batting avg. on his team and a hit better than most overpriced players. The way i see it everyone is entitled to a bad year, but batting .290 isnt to shabby and wherever he ends up he'll be a great asset. You can't go wrong with VLAD.

You know who hit 13 less homers than Vlad last year?? Betty White!!! ...and she'd put more butts in the seats!

Ibanez? Forget that! Imagine Vlad in that ball park. Sign him up! Besides they need another leader and a good clubhouse presence since Jorge retired. Gotta sign Vlad over Raul.

I don't get why the Yankees are so in love with Ibanez.

Vlad said he would not accept a trade to NY when he was with Montreal, don't bring him in now!!!! No other team wants him.

I think they should sign Vlad because while yes he is a a right handed bat he did hit righties better than lefty starters last season with a .309 avg against them plus 11 of his 13 home runs and 51 of his 63 rbis came off righties. The dimensions at Yankee Stadium only make his power more dangerous. Look at his numbers to within the division last season. Tampa is the only team he didn't have a .320+ average against. He did hit James Shields pretty well though in 39 AB's he registered 15 hits with 2 homers and 6 rbi's and a .385 avg. Vlad's numbers aren't that far off from Raul's numbers even with only playing only 92 games to Raul's 144. Raul had a .245 avg 20 homer and 84 rbi season. Don't forget Vlad's 2 seasons off a .300 avg 29 HR 115 rbi season

The only reason he wants to play for the Stankees is the short dimentions at little league yankee stadium...anyone, including my grandson can hit it out of there...

Stankees... clever. Did your grandson write that joke?

Last I checked the Yankees aren't the only team in that stadium 81 days of the year that can use those " Short Little League" dimensions to their advantage. So what's your point Ronzo?

Vlad would strive in the 6 hole for the yanks and in that ballpark. Give him a shot, at the very least send someone over to the DR to take in a workout. Guaranteed he has at least a year left.

They are better off with either Damon or Matsui as they are known quantities. Why bring in somebody else who has never played with NY? Ibanez has tailed off significantly the past 2 seasons and is older than the other options. Since there is no DH in the NL, I don't see how his body is somehow in better shape than the others. I would loved to have seen Vlad in pinstripes a long time ago. He is still intriguing though, and no matter what, I would take him, Damon or Godzilla before Ibanez.

They have a DH, It's Chavez or A-Fraud*, whoever is just coming off the DL.

Get Damon back and resign Chavez

Vlad wiffs better than he hits. Matsui would be a better option, but Ibanez would be just as good a choice. Yanks need a good DH no matter who they decide to go with.

he's actually one of the hardest people in the league to strikeout....

Hey Step you retard, do you always make should stupid comments without checking facts? As an Angel fan, I tip my cap to Brad. Vladdy may swing at everything from his toes to his nose but he hits most of them.

hmm last year he had 56 k's, and hits like a mad man, though he only walked 17 times, he makes consitent contact, the only other player I see as a better fit in Yankee's stadium is Matsui

Ibanez is easily the top choice, even if he's the oldest of them all. His body isn't nearly as beat up as the others and can still contribute relatively effectively in the outfield to give Grandy, Swish or Gardner a rest when necessary.

Vlad at 37 needs to hang it up and retire.
    • avsandbruinsfan 3 months ago
You think a guy that did hit 290 should retire? Man are you ever dumb
