Roy Oswalt talks with Boston not progressing

US PresswireThe Boston Red Sox have been talking to Roy Oswalt off and on this winter, but it doesn't appear that a deal will be made.

A major-league source to the Boston Herald says that there is "no sense of progress" in the talks between the two sides.

The paper notes that Bobby Valentine is feeling fine with the current rotation, which consists of Jon Lester, Josh Beckett, Clay Buchholz and likely Daniel Bard and Alfredo Aceves.

"I'm comfortable until I'm not comfortable," Valentine said, according to the Herald. "I like the people we have coming to camp. If nothing changes, if all I can deal with is their past, it's probably not enough. But the world champions evolved as the season went on last year. The American League champions evolved as the year went on. Why should I think that we should see a finished product now?"

Oswalt went 9-10 with a 3.69 ERA and two stints on the disabled list with a hurting back last year for the Philadelphia Phillies.

Valentine is being coy with the media...behind the scenes, he's asking for moves from the GM from left and right..he's probably begging them to sign Oswalt as his established ace and wants to trade for Agbayani from Japan

It seems the market for 9-10 pitchers coming off disabled lists is not as high as it was.

He wants to go to a team that will pay big $$$ even if he sucks. Boston would want a contract that play good pay good only.

      Umm, 3.69 isn't sucking.

I did not say he sucks.I ment that if he does in the coming year then he should not get big $$,but he he has a good year then he should be compensated. All I keep hearing is about his injuries over & over.

Heres my take on Oswalt. He doesn't want to come to Boston. Why?

He's seeking a long-term deal. But coming off of back injuries he's only gonna get a one-year deal. So he needs an impressive season to earn himself a three, four-year deal next offseason. Well the AL East is a juggernaut of hitting and Texas, LA, and Detroit are pretty good too. And lets not forget Fenway is not exactly a pitchers park. Also why leave the NL and face a DH and not face the NL West.

I would love to see Oswalt play for the Red Sox but I just don't feel it's gonna happen. Smartest thing he could do is stay in the easier hitting National League.

That's nice but he said wants to play for a good team that has a chance to win it all. We all know that's not the Cubs.

I don't care who Oswalt signs with. He thinks he is better than he is because of the demand other teams or giving him. I say let the Phillies keep him if he is that good now. I doubt if the Phillies can afford him either. SOLUTION: Retire Oswalt! Go Cards!
