US PresswireIt is said that free-agent pitcher Roy Oswalt wanted to join the lineup of one of the two teams that met in the World Series last season — the Texas Rangers or St. Louis Cardinals — this offseason, but both teams already had stocked pitching rotations and other needs to throw their money at.
It's also been long rumored that the Boston Red Sox would love to have Oswalt and have offered a deal that he turned down because it wasn't close enough to his Mississippi home. Other offseason rumors had him turning down interest from the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians.
Now all may be answered. ESPN reports that Oswalt's agent, Bob Garber, is saying that his client will announce Thursday just what his decision is, even though it's not clear exactly what the 34-year-old three-time All-Star is deciding on.
Oswalt went 9-10 with a 3.9 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 139 innings pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies last year. He also spent time on the disabled list twice with a hurting back. One of those stints started with an injury that had people initially fearing that he'd need to retire.
