Reds interested in Roy Oswalt?

US PresswireThe word this offseason has been that free agent starter Roy Oswalt wanted to join the rotations of the Texas Rangers or St. Louis Cardinals. But neither of those teams had room for the 34-year-old so he's considering other options.

Word came this weekend that the Cincinnati Reds have interest in signing him, but the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that "the sides have had no contact in nearly a week" and Cincy would need to make some changes in its budget before signing the three-time All-Star.

"We had discussions with them a while ago," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said, the paper reports. "The last we heard he was going to Texas. That was on Monday. I don't know if that deal is still in place."

Oswalt went 9-10 with a 3.60 ERA for the Philadelphia Phillies last season. Over his career, he is 159-93 with a 3.21 ERA.

that would be a perfect addition to the club, if they do sign him then jocketty is the man i was at the reds caravan and i asked jocketty about oswalt and he just said that it was unlikely for the reds and oswalt to make a deal, but i guess that he said that about madson and latos to. go reds

Oswalt is still worth a lot and a shot with the Redlegs. I hope that the Redlegs sign him - win, win for both sides.

If "if and ands were pots and pans the world would be a kitchen." Too many ifs on Oswalt, take him Reds so the Red Sox can't waste any more money on DL pitchers...

With the moves that Walt Jocketty has made to the pitching staff this offseason and if he can sign Roy Oswalt the Reds will be in a position to play deep into the playoffs.

If Oswalt's back doesn't give him any more trouble, he would be able to help the Reds contend.
